What to Wear: Summer Steals

Forgive me if I sound a little triumphant this morning but not only do I love the subject of today’s post, my French Connection Rabari skirt, but it was also the result of both initial restraint and some serious sale stalking.

Jumper, Whistles // Skirt, French Connection // Earrings, Accessorize // Bag, Marc by Marc Jacobs (old) // Sandals, Dune (old)

Restraint is not my middle name when it comes to shopping, but when I first rummaged around the French Connection summer sale instore I found some great bargains in their keenly reduced rails. I had been looking for a summer skirt for some time but when I saw that the reduction on this skirt was a mere £12, I was pretty peeved and drew the line at forking out for an item that, given the weather so far this year, I had no occasion for as yet. I decided I would watch and wait, then snap it up when the price came down.

All images in this post were taken with the Fuji x100 which I am reviewing – look out for my photography posts reviewing it coming soon.

Wait I did and watch I did, with increasing frustration, the second round of reductions came and went with this particular skirt staying resolutely at the original sale price. Then last Friday I received an email from French Connection about their final sale reductions. Lo and behold, the skirt was not only reduced to a bargain £25 but also completely sold out.

I called a couple of local stores immediately, only to find the last 2 size 10’s in the country were in Manchester City centre and I made a dash in my lunch break to pick one up – it was fate.

This weekend as the sun finally came out, I bared my pins (teaming it with a jumper to protect against the dipping twilight temperatures on this occasion) and wore it to death.

So, have you got any sale triumphs to share? What’s your biggest sale bargain this summer?

PS. The earrings were another sale bargain – I always visit Accessorize in the sale every year and bought 2 new pairs of earrings in the sale at 70% off for a couple of pounds each!

  1. A pair of metallic wedged espadrilles from Dune that I’ve coveted but with all the wet weather easily resisted, entered the sale & in my size & are now in my wardrobe.

  2. Thanks to your tweet on Friday about the FC discounts, I picked up a white waterfall blazer for £49 down from £150! Not the same one as yours, but similar. I know it’s late in the season for it, but I have three weddings coming up that I desperately needed a cover-up for, and I reckon it’s a classic piece that will last me for a while. Or that’s what I told myself as I handed over my credit card…

  3. love the little layers on the skirt, i love finding a bargain, the problem is, i seem to buy them in multiples which makes for an expensive shopping trip…
i managed to get a pair of french connection red suede brogues for £26 from kurt geiger and a pair of red satin heels from there for the same price….both completely unsuitable for wet weather mind so i am holding out for the sun!

  4. I bought this http://www.asos.com/Warehouse/Warehouse-Lace-Shift-Dress/Prod/pgeproduct.aspx?iid=2178799 (not sure if the link will work but it’s a yellow lace shift dress) on Saturday from the Warehouse website for £15. I actually nearly bought it full price (£58) a few weeks ago but resisted. I’m wearing it for a wedding next month but I doubt I’ll get much other wear out of it this year. Instead it will go away for next years hols x

  5. I had been stalking the French Connection Lisella lace skirt in daisy white, willing it to come down in price from £87. When it finally did I couldn’t find it in stock anywhere in a size 10. Until I got a lovely little email from one of those designer sale sites yesterday informing me they had a french connection sale……..nabbed my skirt for £22!! Can’t wait for it to arrive, and hoping the sun is still shining so I can bare my pins in it – although I think it would also look good in autumn with coloured tights to really show off the lace detail. That’s what I told myself when I handed over some of my holiday savings for it anyway! 😉

There are so many good sales on at the moment though, it is really hard to behave and not spend!
