What to Wear: Red, White and Denim…

A couple of Fridays ago, my chosen friday frock was this denim shirt dress from Oasis. Those of you who bought it with 20% off in their dresses promotion will be glad to hear that it hasn’t gone into the sale yet, as was I, because I bought it the very day after featuring it.

Given the ahem, lacklustre weather we have been having of late, I’ve been struggling to really wear anything summery and have developed somewhat of a routine of changing into my pyjamas each evening before settling down in front of the computer. However, when I have been out, the denim shirt dress is the one I’ve been turning to time and time again.

Last week, on a lovely sunny morning, I wore it to go for a walk with my friend Zoe in some local woodland. My lightweight parka came out along with a another purchase from GAP, although more recent, this blue, white and red geometric printed scarf. Wellies were mandatory due to recent rain and I took full advantage by walking through all available puddles that weren’t already occupied by a dog or small child 😉

This weekend, out it came again, this time to visit my new nephew – a combined trip to also celebrate fathers day. This time, I decided to dress it up a bit more (although I’ll admit the heels later went by the wayside in favour of bright jelly flats…) with heeled loafers, a new neon necklace from Zara and a skinny leopard print belt.

Either way, I was reminded how versatile denim is and how great it looks with other primary brights, including my blue nails, painted especially to herald the arrival of a baby boy.

What’s your go-to outfit of the moment?

  1. I’ve been wearing my denim dress heaps too! I love leopard print with denim too… that belt you’re wearing is perfectly subtle yet still has a kick and I love it with the neon yellow x

  2. I’ve been in my white linen trousers (BR) sale and anything vaguely stripey top wise. Paired with wedges and a blazer I have successfully pulled off the outfit that Red magazine usually puts in the 50-60 category.

My other go to outfit is a blue (yes bright blue) dress with white flowers from next. I pull it over my head and boom, I’m ready.

I almost bought a playsuit thing (yes…..I KNOW) from Oasis but then the sale came and I can’t find it anymore. There are sooooo many sales it’s mental.

  3. I seem to be wearing out my bright green Gap trousers and my Chanel-esque blazer from H&Ms.
    Also loving the wellies!

  4. I too love the wellies (and I choose my word with care!) – you must have been the chicest walker in the park!

  5. Looove that necklace, Rebecca!
Before my trip to France a couple of weeks ago I wanted to get something cheap and cheerful to brighten my wardrobe, so I headed to Matalan, which is were I usually only buy slippers (!), but found a couple of great bits! One of which is a dipped hem maxi skirt in bright pink, which I’ve worn with a black sleeveless sweater with crochet from Zara and a new pair of comfy Dance Lace black Converse from Office.

I’m going to try and resist the sales, though. I recently vowed that I would go back to the way I used to shop when I was in Italy – saving money for really good quality items instead of lots of cheaper ones – so I’m going to try and be good and use what I already have for this summer… (that’s if I don’t get withdrawal symptoms!). xx

  6. Love this post, including the random willies chat 😀 I have been lusting after Baker Street nail varnish for ages but trying to curb my ever growing collection(!), after seeing this post I now *have* to buy it xx

    • Ha ha – it is quite random!

I’m still undecided on the blue. I think it’s great for the weekend, but of all the random colours I wear at work, I think this one is the one I feel least comfortable with patients seeing me wearing. I don’t know… it doesnt feel very ‘professional’!

      • I personally don’t think it looks unprofessional but clearly it’s you that needs to feel comfortable. I can’t wear orange or bright yellow at work because it seems so in your face obvious!
