What-to-Wear: Print on Print

Perhaps the scariest trend known to (wo)man, is that of clashing prints and I can say with confidence I never expected to be sharing myself attempting it here. Least of all at a family wedding.

However, this weekend I was attending a wedding, on the beach no less, so I needed something from my existing wardrobe, that would work, allow me to eat and drink and have fun but still feel pretty in. My Whistles Wisteria print dress is perfect in that respect, with the pockets and loose fit, but the print felt summery and I paired it later for the reception with the purple wedges I wore when I last featured it here.

Jacket – Miss Selfridge // Dress – Whistles // Bag – Mulberrycity for this particular wedding. I have this gorgeous little beaded jacket from last year and although it is also a floral print, I decided the two worked together. Despite the summer temperatures and sun (I actually got too warm,) the glitter seemed to add a touch of almost casual glamour and as a few of the ladies there were wearing vintage frocks (yes, I asked,) I felt suitably dressed up without being over the top. Bare feet were the order of the day…

The jacket is from Miss Selfridge and when I bought it cost about £90. The story behind it is that at a fashion show I saw a girl wearing a similar style in different colours and asked where she got it, thinking it was bound to be vintage. She said Miss Selfridge and then I remembered they do jackets like this every season. It’s the kind of thing I wear with jeans, skirts and I’ve worn it with block colour dresses underneath. Although it seemed like a big outlay, I can see it being in my wardrobe for years, one of those ‘hero’ pieces you keep going back to.

So what do you think readers? Less scary after all?!

  1. I’ve just been looking at a sequin floral jacket (well maybe more of a balero) and wondering if I could make a similar print clash. I’ve yet to make a great outfit with but it’s so pretty and I like the style of this outfit!x
