What to Wear: [Maternity] Summery Third Trimester

ASOS maternity strapless dress, £18, worn with silver birkenstocks and silver Zatchel, aviators and Christy’s Nimbin hat

A couple of weeks ago we went to Italy for our friends wedding. I’ll share the travel aspect soon but I realised recently that I haven’t shared much in the way of what I have been wearing maternity-wise. Frankly, this has been due to the fact that we have been so busy in the house, painting, DIYing and running to places like B&Q and IKEA, that there hasn’t been much int he way of dressing up. However, on holiday I got to wear a few new pieces that I thought I’d share today.

In summer, I think strapless styles are a must as I can’t stand tan lines, even if they are inadvertently picked up whilst sight seeing. Unsurprisingly given the amble bust that arrived with pregnancy for me, strapless maternity styles are few and far between, but I love this Sea shell print white dress from ASOS. Unfortunately it’s no longer available but this similar style is.

Everyone needs a maternity maxi and this Striped GAP maxi is super comfy and wasn’t expensive. The only downside is that a strapless bra is required, due to the racer back straps. It’s currently on sale too.

Seraphine Emerald Knot front maternity Maxi dress, £59 worn with cream Accessorise clutch, H&M oversized chandelier earrings (similar here,) and ASH heels (similar here)

For the wedding, I decided I’d be too hot and bothered in something clingy (like the body-con style I wore at 28 weeks to another wedding.) I had spied this Seraphine Maxi and wanted to buy it for general wear in summer, but realised the luxe jersey draping and elegant front knot were suitable for a summer wedding and I felt a million dollars in it. I wore it again this weekend at the black tie do I went to and loved it again.

Lastly, and slightly oddly, I’ve been back into some of my ‘normal’ clothes! You might remember this favourite Whistles dress of mine (seen here and here before.) – Now that my bump has overtaken my boobs, looser t-shirt and shift style dresses that I love but were super unflattering hanging straight down from my larger chest are now comfortable and fashionable, still showing the bump!

Obviously, I know this is all very warm weather appropriate, but I thought it was time for a bit of maternity outfit inspiration!

  1. Good morning! Rebecca you are certainly blooming! Beautiful pictures, and great advice for maternity clothes. My little boy is 12 weeks now, and it feels like years since I was pregnant! Living in Dubai meant I lived in maxi dresses, they made me feel my very best as they’re super flattering. I bought a couple from Seraphine too, as well as a shorter version of your green dress above- which I must say is definitely a picture to frame, you look radiant! These dresses are perfect for dressing up or down. I hope the good weather back home continues so that you get a little more wear from your pretty dresses- although another plus of the maxi dress is that they look fab with a cardi! X

  2. You look stunning in that green maxi! I have a family wedding at 35 weeks and am having qualms about my outfit choice – I might order this as a possible replacement. How did you find the Seraphine sizing? Did you go for your pre-baby size or did you need to size up?

    • Kirsty, I have the short pink version and I found it true to pre maternity size based on the bust. The assistant in the shop did say that lots of women go for the smaller size in this particular style though

    • I have the short green and blue versions of that dress and I would definitely go pre-maternity size, but as Becca says you might be able to get away with a size down from that depending on bust size. Word of advice though, make sure you order with plenty of time as they seem to be having dispatch issues at the moment (am still waiting for an order I placed a fortnight ago which they’ve only just sent out, and this is the second recent order of mine from them which has been delayed).

  3. I love all of these outfits. You look great and really glowy!

Unfortunately a strapless bra just isn’t possible these days for me!!. I have the pink version of the seraphine green maxi in the shorter length and would really recommend it for work when it’s hot….it’s gorgeously breezy.

    Need more clothes **googles**

  4. You look beautiful in the green maxi dress!! Such a stunning dress, I’m almost tempted to get one myself and I’m not even pregnant! Do you think I could get away with it?!

    • Well, it’s billed as ‘for maternity and beyond’ and it would hang straight, so why not?! (I’ve bought dresses way too big for me before and worn them belted, so it’s not that different!)

  5. Is the strapless bra non-wired? If so I’d love to know more details as I’ve been searching high and low for one! Great outfits btw.
