How to Wear: January

Good Morning Readers

I hope you have all had good January’s. Mine has been interesting to say the least. Little did I think that it would include a four day hospital stay for Pneumonia! I’m feeling a lot better now, but it did take me, and my whole family by surprise. The one good thing that came out of the experience was that I actually got a chance to read (not much else to do in hospital!) so I’ve made a good dent into one of my New Year Goals.

Due to that stay, and the week preceding my admission when I wasn’t feeling well at all (I thought I had the flu), I’ve not really been wearing anything that exciting. I did make a couple of cheeky purchases though.

One was a fantastic pair of jeans from a boutique local to me, Quattro Rich. They are a pair of Twist & Tango jeans and the perfect burgundy red colour – something that will go very well with a lot in my wardrobe. Not proper ‘denim’ but more of a heavy cotton twill, they are so flattering on the leg. Quattro Rich stock a lot of Twist & Tango bits (these jeans have unfortunately sold out) but it’s always worth giving Ivy and her team a call to see what they have, as she does offer a mail order service. The best bit about these were that they were a sales bargain – thank you January.

Another item I got was actually some underwear. I have to admit it’s been a struggle finding underwear to wear that’s comfortable whilst nursing. I have been massively put off nursing bras since I had a bad bout of Mastitis in the Autumn (I partly blame the fact I got it on a bad fitting bra I had from a well-known Mother & Baby retailer, even though they measured me. Turns out they measured me hugely incorrectly!). Since then, I have been wearing some vests from H&M which have been great, but lacking in support. I was then looking for something of a similar ilk, and came across this vest. What can I say – life-changing! Not only does it give you good support and good access, plus feels so nice on – the straps are so comfortable – it slims your silhouette so clothes look better on. A miracle in a vest! Granted, they aren’t the cheapest option around, but for something I have worn EVERY DAY, the cost-per-wear is low. Once I’m wearing something other than jeans and a sweatshirt again, I’ll post a picture of the difference it makes underneath clothes. Really, I can’t recommend these enough if you are nursing, or about to be as I know some of you are.

Finally, I had my first outing in a new pair of boots. I succumbed and bought a pair of Topshop Magnificent “Sock” boots. I own a fair few midi skirts and dresses, plus cropped jeans/culottes, and had read that these would be perfect to update them for winter. The reviews weren’t wrong. Very comfortable with a good heel hight (I had to size up but I often do in Topshop shoes), they are great boots – perfect Cognac brown colour and a modern toe shape. The purchase was made all the more sweet as I had a credit note burning a hole in my purse. Win Win.

Apologies again that there aren’t more pictures of me. I am on the mend, and come the end of Feb, I’m sure I’ll be back again in full health. I’ll be back soon with what to buy in February… Until then!

Erin xx

Friday Frock O’clock

Rather than my usual interest in trend-led fashion this week I’ve been working on my, ahem, work wardrobe. I’ll be the first to admit, I don’t wear ‘office wear’ for my job as a GP. I also don’t dress how you would probably expect a GP to dress. I have several requirements for my work clothes. They must be washable (I do hand wash, but rarely bother to get to the dry cleaners,) appropriate in a professional sense (no gaping bust or skirts that ride up,) both when standing and sitting, and be comfortable. That said, I like to show a bit of FF style personality!

So, I found this dress in the French Connection sale and snapped it up.

Raquella Dress, French Connection sale

It’s in a washable cotton, has the tiniest hint of a peplum, in a figure flattering fitted shape. Add to that my favourite navy shade and a pattern that remains professional yet has some personality about it, and I’m all set for the working day, not forgetting my patent satchel and pretty blue brogues for a serious touch 😉

Weekend Webwalk

This weekend I wanted to share a little something that I felt strongly about and I’d really like you all to get involved in. For a while now, I’ve been an avid reader of Emerald Street, the daily emails that pop into my inbox set up by the sister brand Stylist magazine. Now if you read Stylist, you’ll know exactly how good these emails are going to be, or maybe you already know about Emerald Street, but if not, consider it a mini blog post to cheer you up every morning with a variety of tidbits, just like Florence Finds) ranging from fashion to food and everything in between – now where have I heard that before?! As if I needed an excuse to introduce you to Emerald Street, now I have an even better one…

This Christmas, Emerald Street has teamed up with Look Good Feel Better, a charity that is dedicated to improving the lives of women with cancer. By teaming up with people in the beauty industry they offer make-overs addressing all the problems a Cancer patient has from dry or lack-lustre skin to hair loss, including filling in brows or trying wigs.

From now until Christmas, we’ll donate £1 for every person who signs up to our emails…We’re hoping to raise £20,000 in the next three weeks, but we can’t do it without you.

As someone with direct personal and professional experience of women who are affected by cancer, I have seen what a devastating effect it can have. Often women even say that the reality of their illness doesn’t hit home and really bring them down until their appearance is affected, reminding them every time they look in the mirror and meaning they can no longer hide it from the world. I can only guess what a blow it must be to a womans self confidence and esteem at an already hugely distressing time in their lives.

So, if you don’t already subscribe to Emerald Street, click here and sign up. I wouldn’t recommend it just for charities sake, but you can do this small thing and feel good that you’ve helped someone who might be having a difficult Christmas, now or in the future. Thank you.

Decorating this weekend?
On a lighter note… as I know some of you will still be putting up your Christmas tree’s and decorations, don’t forget my plea for your Real Christmas decor pictures. It can be your tree, mantlepiece, table top, anything, just send in a couple of pictures and I’ll slot them in with the inspiration posts I’m preparing for the next couple of weeks. (Send them into
