You wouldn’t know it, given my addiction to Jo Malone, but I am very choosy when it comes to perfume. When I discovered Jo Malone however, I was thrilled to find there were in fact fragrances in existence that don’t give me a headache on first spritz. Now I have 4 different scents in my coveted collection which I vary for the season and to suit my mood, like a proper grown up laydee 😉
When I received an invitation to try the latest limited edition Sugar and Spice collection I hot-footed it down to Selfridges to experience the different fragrances and bring you my review.
All in the name of research of course, I sniffed and tested each one, finding a clear favourite in the Lemon Tart.
Elderflower and Gooseberry – reminded me of classic perfumes, for the fragrance traditionalist.
Ginger Biscuit – similar to Tierry Muglers ‘Angel’ with a rich sweet scent.
Lemon Tart – My favourite. Undeniably sweet but fresh, mellowing to a sugary warm but still light perfume.
Bitter Orange and Chocolate – Just like a Chocolate Orange!
Redcurrant and Cream – For the Pomegranate Noir lover, slightly lighter for the summer months but very similar.
Today’s gift guide is for the other ladies in your life. Last week I did a guide for your sister and best friends, this time we’re tackling older ladies – Mums, aunts, grandmothers. They’ll have one thing in common: they deserve spoiling and are often tricky to buy for. Whether they tell you they ‘don’t want anything at all dear’, or don’t have room for more, or just have everything, here are some sweet ideas to treat them to something useful or easily expendable so that they can’t claim you’ve cluttered up their space!
Make sure her feet are always warm… Velvet and sheepskin slipper, Ruby & Ed
Last Friday, I found myself unexpectedly at a loose end in the Trafford Centre and decided to take myself on a little, ahem, research trip around the beauty hall at Selfridges. Lo and behold, I found today’s Monday Must-Have, the new fragrance from Jo Malone, Blackberry and Bay.
I’m a huge fan of Jo Malone and not just because it’s a luxury brand. I don’t get on very well with perfume – the vast majority give me a headache, yet since I discovered Jo Malone, I’ve bought 3 perfumes in as many years (prior to that I’d worn the same 1 for the last 10 years,) and now I can tell you I’ll be purchasing a fourth.
Blackberry and bay is like a grown up version of the smell of Ribena, fruity and sweet but tempered with the freshness of the bay, I fell instantly in love… I think you will too.
So, how was it? I feel like I’ve been away for ages and I’m dying to have a good catch up with my girlfriends! That has to be a good sign that I’m enjoying Florence Finds.
I couldn’t kick us off into the post-Christmas/pre-New Year lull without sharing some of the lovely gifts I received this year and I’m hoping that you’ll be wanting to share one or two (or maybe the whole list like me!) of yours?
It’s not quite the Macbook from my fantasy gift list 😉 but I’m loving getting to grips with my new Apple Magic trackpad mouse – I’m a sucker for new technology!
I was so excited to receive the Laura Mercier Illuminator I mentioned in my beauty gift guide, but it’s so pretty I don’t want to spoil it by using it!
I don’t normally get cleaning products for Christmas, but this was a stocking filler from Pete as I love my other e-cloths and he completely wrecked slightly damaged mine during the decorating… e-cloth + painting = upset Rebecca.
Now my hair has gone back to being short and sassy (read completely unsalvageable with a bobble on rainy days,) I needed a rain hat and think I’m going to look very Inspector Gadget in this trilby from Ted Baker
GAP socks, always.
Another hat which I asked for, a classic bobble, although mine is pink, of course. Accessorize Bobble hat
My genius Mum found me a handbag hook… Accessorize handbag hook.
Burning in my office right now? A Jo Malone fig and cassis candle
For perfect at-home manicures, Leighton Denny Miracle drops – watch out for a DIY coming up on this soon.
Super thrilled with this one (after buying no less than 3 as gifts for other people!)Design*Sponge at Home book
And another great present – I totally missed out on Downton Series 1 and now I can catch up… did you see the Christmas special?!
Of course it wasn’t all about gifts, I had a wonderful few days at my home for Christmas Day, lots of lovely food and drink 😉 rest and relaxation and a bit of sale shopping already… more of that to come soon!
Share your favourite gifts by leaving a comment in the box… as always I can’t wait to hear what you’ve received!
Described as an ‘adventurous new scent, drenched with the delicate sweetness of sapphire blooms… wild, whimsical, and terribly English’ they’ve certainly gone all out on enticing you to try her out.
‘A girl who lets nature run riot for all the right reasons.’
Sounds like a girl after my own heart 😉
For me, it’s quite heady and definitely belongs to their floral group of scents, with a strong reference to hyacinths. But I could easily be drawn in by the stunning advertising visuals they have created with more than a dash of the nonsensical and quirk along with a very enticing white rabbit. Alice in Wonderland anyone?
Check it out in-store now and tell me your verdict…
