#JanuaryJoy – Go to the Cinema

I’m super excited today as today’s #JanuaryJoy prompt was one of the first to go onto the calendar way back in early December when I started planning this series. The instant I saw the trailer for Les Miserables, I knew I’d be making a bee-line straight for the cinema to watch it on the big screen.

I know it’s a cliche but there’s something magical about the movies. My favourite types of film to see are those with sweeping theatrical productions, Baz Luhrmann and his surreal style being amongst my favourites. I’m not a ‘Les Mis’ fan and *hangs head in shame* had never seen it on the stage because I thought it might be, well, miserable? Having seen the trailer however, although I know it’s going to be sad, (no spoilers please!) I’m totally sucked in by the drama already.

I love seeing films I can get lost in, transported to another time or place and that pull at my heart strings. I’m pretty sure the Les Miserables film is going to fit the bill.

Are you going readers? Are you excited? I can’t wait. For the first time in my life I have booked the Premiere seats!

  1. Eeeek, I’m going on Sunday evening with a friend and my Mum- I’m also very excited! I’ll probably sing and cry, excellent 🙂

Have a lovely weekend full of January Joy!

  2. I’m also very excited about Les Miserables, and I am right there with you, I never saw it on stage either. I do know one of the songs by heart though, a high school friend of mine was crazy on broadway and we would spend afternoons trying to sing high notes and all while not breaking the windows.
I also really liked “The perks of being a wallflower” but I hear some people were disappointed, maybe I should have read the book first.

  3. I’m so envious of you having not seen it yet (in the same way that I envy people that haven’t read fantastic books like Pride & Prejudice!) – it’s an amazing stage show and I can’t wait to see the film tomorrow.

  4. Considering I cried when I saw the trailer and also put my hand to my heart as if I was a French revolutionary while watching, it’s safe to say I’m pretty darn excited about this film. Hoping to see it this weekend. yay!

  5. I can’t wait for Les Mis to come out! I’m taking my mum next week and already excited.

Rebecca, you *must* see the live show! It is unbelievable. Yes, it’s incredibly emotional but that just adds to the whole experience.

  6. Yay Les Mis!
My fiance pre-booked this ASAP, we are going tonight. He is a massive geek.
Also the stage show is awesome and the film looks equally but differently amazing. Really hope it is.

  7. OMG I am so so so so excited!!

I have seen the play and read the book and know all the songs! (obsessed much!!)

Going to try and persuade the fiance to come with me this weekend 🙂

  8. Oh I can’t wait to see Les Mis. I’m going to see it next weekend with my parents as they are the ones who introduced me to it way back when I was little (we listened to the cassette on pretty much every car journey and my mum turned down the volume for the saucier songs!) We have Premium seats booked too and I am so excited!
The stage show is fabulous too, it was one of the first shows I saw in London and it’s truly breathtaking! I was (and still am) obsessed with musicals as a child and I wore my Les Mis souvenir sweatshirt until it wore out after seeing the show for the first time! 🙂

  9. I can’t wait to see Les Mis! I loved it so much when i saw it in the West End as a teenager, I sobbed my much. I also got the 25th Anniversary DVD for Christmas. Neither my boyfriend or any friends who live near by want to go and see it so it looks like I’m going on my own which probably for the best as no doubt there will be plenty of tears again!

  10. I’ve never seen it on stage either, never really fancied it. The very first house I lived in (I was born in Guernsey) was opposite Victor Hugo’s house there. I remember staring out my bedroom window watching people queuing up outside to go and visit. So I hang my head in even more shame that I’ve not seen it. I must see this movie!

  11. Oo, and what about The Great Gatsby? OK, so I’m utterly gutted it’s been pushed back till May – but IMAGINE when it actually arrives! I cannot wait. I LOVE YOU NOW, ISN’T THAT ENOUGH?!

    Ahem. Sorry.
