What to Wear: For a wedding [28 weeks]

This year I have had 3 weddings to attend, 1 in March and 2 in May. I thought for the first one I would fit regular clothes (at 22 weeks) but looked dreadful in most, didn’t fit the things I thought I would and fortunately had popped a bump decent enough to show off. I ended up looking at maternity styles and opting for this bright pink asymmetrical dress from Isabella Oliver which I have now worn twice, again just over a week ago at 28 weeks, when we remembered to take some pictures.

Dress: Isabella Oliver Ruched one shoulder maternity dress
Fascinator & Clutch: LK Bennet (old)
Heels: Nine West (old)

Back in March I toned down the bright summery shade by teaming it with a black fascinator, clutch and heels but for this weekend, I wanted something fabulous (it was a rather glamorous affair!) and summery. I borrowed the clutch and fascinator that my mum wore at my wedding and teamed it with crazy purple sequinned heels and a vintage look beaded jacket (not shown, see here,) for an eclectic look.

The dress is £115 but I bought it with 15% off and intend to wear it for another wedding yet, so I’m happy I will have got reasonable wear out of it. I am very impressed with Isabella Oliver so far too. The jersey is thick and luxe-feeling and their service is great – items invariably arrive after only a day or two and packaged beautifully. I imagine this would pull down quite easily for breast feeding post-baby too.

Love,
Rebecca

  1. Wow you looked absolutely beautiful. I am writing down Isabella Oliver as a source for maternity clothing in the future. So far I have had good luck with ASOS I find their style modern, fun, varied and affordable. Wow I sound like a commercial.

It’s funny and crazy though… when I went to that wedding in Tuscany (in July 2011) I dressed in a very similar style: I wore a one shouldered-ruffled-bright fucsia dress. I also wore it with lilac heels. Crazy. But you can see here… I hope you had fun. The other day I was thinking when you asked for recommendations I completely forgot to tell you to go to “La Specola” in Florence, right behind The Boboli gardens. It is a natural history / medicine museum. Very very interesting (anatomy wax and wood models, specimens) for a doctor… I loved it.

  2. Beautiful!

It’s funny that everyone feels the need to justify spending £100 on a maternity dress for a wedding, as (for me at least) there are so many other times I spent at least that on a dress for a special occasion only to wear it once and have it sitting prettily in the wardrobe forever more! No different at all and yet it feels so frivolous!

  3. Hey Sami,

Great shoes hey? I always get compliments on them!
The clutch and fascinator are both LK Bennet and mum bought them for my wedding 5 years ago now, so not sure you’ll have much luck. Have you tried eBay and ASOS?Hey Sami,

  4. Looking lovely Rebecca!! I was wondering, you mentioned a vintage look beaded jacket but there doesn’t seem to be a link or pic. If it isn’t a maternity one could you post a link? I’ve got a wedding to go to in late October and think I know what dress I want to wear but knowing the weather at that time will probably need something over it! Thanks.

  5. What a delicious bump! I bought the Baukjen jersey wrap dress in the same colour for my sister’s wedding last year when I was breastfeeding my baby. I highly recommend it – very flattering and easy to feed discreetly. This post has reminded me how much I love that dress! I’m not breastfeeding anymore but might crack it out for this summer!

  6. Hi this is fab I have a wedding too at end of June and I’ll be 23 weeks pregnant. Can I ask what size you bought as I around then same size as you 🙂 not sure whether to go for a 2 or a 3. I’m a 2 in tiffany rose . Thanks 🙂 x
