The Fash Flash: Smokin’

It can’t have escaped your notice that flats are having a moment… whether it be ‘flatforms’, brogues, moccasins, low heeled loafers or the trend I’m tackling today, Smoking slippers.

Admittedly, it’s not a trend I’m 100% on board with – like everything in fashion there are some representations of the trend I like and others I’m not so keen on. Particularly for the ladies amongst us with shall we say longer feet, I think it’s key to look for one with a shorter upper, more akin to a ballet flat and that’s the style I prefer.

Given that it’s London Fashion Week as of today and there will be heels galore clicking across the pavements around Somerset house, I couldn’t help but let myself round up a few alternative options, imagining them on tired feet or tucked into bags running between shows.

When it comes to this style, the more embellishment the better, with glitter and embroidery or animal prints and think opulent with velvets, metallics and animal hair.

Have you bought into the trend and which is your favourite here?

Love,
Rebecca

  1. I have the topshop ones, but in white and slighly more square toe.
I love them, they look far better on than off and really brighten up any outfit. I am so going to be buying more of these kinds!

The fox head ones are very special! ๐Ÿ™‚

    Xx

  2. I was just yesterday thinking what the hell am I going to wear on my feet this winter…I don’t think these guys will be making the list, I would feel like I had nicked my grans slippers. That said, whenever I see them on people they always look great!
I think it’s my age – I want something that will keep my feet dry and look as good with skinnies as my boyfriend jeans!

  3. Oh. My. God. I am nearly hyperventilating – I’ve wanted a pair of sparkly loafer flats since I saw a pink Kate Spade pair (I think) a couple of months ago and now you, lovely lovely Rebecca, have shown me a silver pair (just as good). Yippeeeeeeee!

  4. I’m rather enjoying the leopard print ones. I’ve suddenly found I enjoy a good animal print and every time I see something of that ilk am reminded of an interview with Joanna Lumley I read recently in which she’s shopping and keeps picking up items exclaiming with each in her caramel tones “I love a good animal print. I’m such a slut”. Awww Joanna, you’re really not. And neither am I.

I’m with you on the shape of these shoes though, Rebecca. I can’t decide if I’d prefer something with more of a modern silhouette: either more rounded or pointier. Also my very wide, quite large feet have never had much luck fitting into those styles, which might explain my preference for ballet flats. Am loving the plethora of flat styles about this season though!

  5. I’m sorry, I just can’t do it! They remind me of the kind of slippers you used to get every Christmas with super ted or some equally great cartoon character stuck on the front!

Also, with size 8 feet they’d look awful on me.

I’m sure they’ll look fab on all you smaller footed and more stylish than me people!

  6. Big-footed ladies: isn’t this a problem regardless of heel height? When I see shoes I like in the shops they’re invariably in a size 5 and by the time the whisk my size out they always seem to have morphed into some mahoosive unfeminine version of that display model…;)
