What to Wear: Tribal

One of the big trends I haven’t really dabbled in so far this season is the tribal trend, mainly because I haven’t seen anything I really liked. That was until I spotted this skirt, in Marks and Spencer.

Skirt, Marks and Spencer Limited Collection // Tee, French Connection // Bag, Marc by Marc Jacobs // Necklace, Zara // Jelly ballet flats, Jimmy Choo (old)

Despite the fact that I don’t feature Marks and Spencer very much, that is mainly because of the online image quality, not because I’m not a staunch supporter of the brand. I wear M&S underwear, love their interiors products and buy several pieces from the Limited and Autograph collections every year. I think this summer has been a bit dry if I’m honest but when I popped in last week I left with three different clothing pieces and 2 sets of underwear. Very happy with myself indeed.

I can see how a skirt like this, all pattern and colour might scare some of you and I say, if in doubt team it with neutrals. I love fresh whites with brights like this – it just feel so summery and I actually wore this last Friday to work with a crisp white shirt (incidentally also an M&S Autograph purchase) with tan and yellow heels.

Of course, me being me, I had an abundance of brights to team it with, but kept the whole look grounded with a simple white T’shirt, tucked in to streamline the look. It dressed the smarter shape of the skirt down and then I picked out and complemented the bright palette with my coral neon edged straw bag and a yellow neon necklace. Perfect for shopping with my sister and an evening cocktail.

Incidentally, the print is also available in a dress if you’re looking for one. Will you be wearing tribal this summer?

What to Wear: Summer Steals

Forgive me if I sound a little triumphant this morning but not only do I love the subject of today’s post, my French Connection Rabari skirt, but it was also the result of both initial restraint and some serious sale stalking.

Jumper, Whistles // Skirt, French Connection // Earrings, Accessorize // Bag, Marc by Marc Jacobs (old) // Sandals, Dune (old)

Restraint is not my middle name when it comes to shopping, but when I first rummaged around the French Connection summer sale instore I found some great bargains in their keenly reduced rails. I had been looking for a summer skirt for some time but when I saw that the reduction on this skirt was a mere £12, I was pretty peeved and drew the line at forking out for an item that, given the weather so far this year, I had no occasion for as yet. I decided I would watch and wait, then snap it up when the price came down.

All images in this post were taken with the Fuji x100 which I am reviewing – look out for my photography posts reviewing it coming soon.

Wait I did and watch I did, with increasing frustration, the second round of reductions came and went with this particular skirt staying resolutely at the original sale price. Then last Friday I received an email from French Connection about their final sale reductions. Lo and behold, the skirt was not only reduced to a bargain £25 but also completely sold out.

I called a couple of local stores immediately, only to find the last 2 size 10’s in the country were in Manchester City centre and I made a dash in my lunch break to pick one up – it was fate.

This weekend as the sun finally came out, I bared my pins (teaming it with a jumper to protect against the dipping twilight temperatures on this occasion) and wore it to death.

So, have you got any sale triumphs to share? What’s your biggest sale bargain this summer?

Love,
Rebecca

PS. The earrings were another sale bargain – I always visit Accessorize in the sale every year and bought 2 new pairs of earrings in the sale at 70% off for a couple of pounds each!
