Triple Temptation: Brightening Baubles

Natalie Statement Necklace // Riviera Dream statement earrings // San Diego Statement Necklace

At this time of year I’m always super keen to get into spring trends and one of the biggest this season is (again) going to be pastels. The only problem is, in high winds, belting rain and temperatures struggling to reach 5 degrees, it feels a little impractical to be breaking out the palest shades never mind the risk of looking like a fashion fool.

My solution until the sun comes back and the temperatures rise a bit is to use accessories to channel the look, namely these J.Crew-esque baubles in candy brights and sorbet shades at high street prices. As usual it’s Accessorize that have the best selection of well priced and well designed pieces with all of these on my spring wish list.

What do you think readers? Can you be tempted?

Spring Series: Accessory Alert

Part of spring for me is getting ready for warmer weather. The seasons and good weather are so unpredictable here in the UK that I hate to miss out on unexpected warmer days because I didn’t have my summer items on standby. Most people have summer clothes hanging around ready to be worn, but a few well chosen accessories can have you covered in all situations, season ready and raring to go.

  • First up choose a hat, not only will your skin thank you for it, but in one form or another, they’re going to be big this year. Fashionista’s are wearing a baseball cap with city tailoring, but for more casual everyday wear choose a big straw floppy hat for seventies chic.
  • Pick up some inexpensive sunglasses early in the season and keep them in your bag. Nothing says spring time sunshine like that feeling you get wearing your favourite pair. I’ll be investing in some Ray Ban Aviators, plus some fun coloured Wayfarers (all ASOS)
  • Go big or go home. Chunky jewels never go out of style and appeal to the colour crusher in me. J.Crew makes the ultimate examples but ASOS has some great styles (Floral Bug Necklace) for a lot less. Use them to brighten your outfit when the weather fails you.
  • Bags get less structured and a whole lot more fun come the summer months. Again, choose neon brights to punch things up or look for relaxed fabric styles for a boho vibe.
  • Time to polish up that pedicure as its time to bare your toes. Choose some trend led budget flats and save the cash to splash in a pair of longer lasting classic wedges.

What are your must have’s for summer?

The Fash Flash: Statement Necklaces for AW12

This week, my thoughts have turned to the Cosmo Blog Awards on Thursday and the perennial what-am-I-going-to-wear saga. Although it’s nothing new, just recently I’ve been thinking how the right accessory can take a multitude of outfits from safe to stylish in one easy step. A classic dress, casual tee’s and shirts of all kinds can be dressed up with a statement necklace and it just so happens that they remain top of the trends for the coming season.

Look for bib styles (shorter lengths that sit just below collar level with a concentration of detailing in that area,) false collars, jewels combined with mixed metals and you won’t go far wrong. I’ve rounded up a selection of my favourites ranging from throw-away-fashion to investment pieces.

Topshop Gem Collar £45 // Ice Glam necklace, Bauble Bar, $36 // Pearly Opalite necklace, H&M, £14.99 // Teardrop Crystal and tube pendant, Mawi at My-Wardrobe.co.uk, £450 // Three crystal square statement necklace, Anton Heunis at My-Wardrobe.co.uk, £351 // Blueberry Statement Collar, Accessorize, £18 // (Black) multi sparkle tube necklace, Miss Selfridge, £20 // Crystal Bee’s necklace with gemstones, Zara, £19.9 // Bright pink and rhinestone necklace, River Island, £18 //

Have you spotted any stunning necklaces lately? (I’m all ears) or is it a statement-step too far for you to try?

What to Wear: Winter Florals

Marks and Spencer printed trousers // Top, French Connection // Heels, Kurt Geiger // Necklace, Banana Republic (old) // Box clutch, Zara

A while ago I shared my printed trousers that had a distinctly summery vibe. I also told you that they were going to remain top of the trends for Autumn and that I already had the perfect pair to share with you. Well here they are, with a summery vibe… you’ll definitely be seeing them again, re-worked for cooler weather as the season progresses.

I found these in M&S of all places (yup, I had quite a haul in there that day, snapping up this sparkly everyday jumper and my tribal skirt.) not Autograph or Limited, just the standard collection. In a moody winter floral print of purples and pinks on black and with a tuxedo style side stripe they feel much more expensive than they were.

In an of-the-moment cropped length I chose to pair them with super high strappy Kurt Geiger heels I bought only a week ago in the sale – a bargain marked down to £31.50 from £150! For so long, evening heels have been all about the peep to or full court shoe that these suddenly felt very modern and fresh.

The trousers and heels do all the talking, so I kept my top half fresh with a simple white silk t’shirt style top and a modern box clutch for added evening sparkle.

Find your pair of Winter floral printed trousers from Marks and Spencers.

What do you reckon readers?

Saturday Survey and Sneak Peek

Happy weekend readers!

Once again, I’m canvassing opinions from you all and remain ever grateful for the time you spend replying to my questions. As always, if you’d like to feed something back that isn’t covered then please email me on hello@florencefinds.com I love to hear all your thoughts on Florence Finds, good or bad. 🙂

Firstly, Five things…

I mentioned my latest nail polish find from H&M in this weeks What to Wear post, but just had to share the ice-cream sherbet colours with you properly. I can’t find the set online to link to, but you can find all 4 in store for £2.99. We love a bargain here at Florence Finds, so we do 🙂

I’ve been busy accessory buying this week as I treated myself to this yellow and nude enamel bangle from Banana Republic which I’ve been coveting for an unreasonable amount of time.

At the same time I stumbled across something I wasn’t really looking for… that elusive statement necklace. This one is chunky, bright, bold and lady like all at the same time and I snapped it up without hesitation, also from Banana Republic. Soon to be seen in a WTW!

How beautiful is this clear confetti balloon from Bon Bon Balloons on A Diary of Lovely

On a more serious note… you’ve all been a little quiet of late. I don’t know if it’s half term or what, and I’ve certainly noticed that commenters doesn’t = readers, there’s more of you every time I look around, but why so quiet readers? Then I was catching up on A Safe Mooring and the lovely Kirsty just so eloquently explained everything I was thinking. Thanks Kirsty 🙂

Bonus Sneak Peek
This week you get a bonus… a sneak peek at what’s coming next week. And my goodness, this has been a long time coming. Some of you will know instantly what you’re about to see, others will be intrigued. You’re all going to LOVE it!

Five Questions

2. Have you participated (ie read the suggested book) in Florence’s Book club yet and if not why not – what kind of books would you like to see featured?
3. How do you prefer to see beauty covered on Florence Finds? (ie tutorials, new products, recommendations and reviews?)
4. What kind of Travel do you want to see covered? (ie UK short breaks, City breaks, hotel reviews, destination guides, longer trips?)
5. (The hard one) It’s the weekend… what am I likely to find you doing?
