The Fash Flash: Max it out

When I shared a selection of summer dresses a couple of weeks back there were of course several gorgeous maxi dresses I could have chosen and I thought they deserved their own dedicated post 🙂

I love a maxi and thought I might be able to wear a few of my old ones during pregnancy but apart from the stretchy jersey styles, as per all my other dashed fashion expectations during pregnancy, the waist hasn’t been in the right place or the boobs haven’t fitted…

Coral lace back maxi, Warehouse £85 // Graphic yellow print maxi, ASOS £55 // Pink poppy print dress, French Connection £240

I’m thinking of buying the French Connection dress (above right) for a holiday later in the year and wonder if I will be able to fit it now and after baby too…

And if you happen to fancy wearing a maxi to an occasion you have this summer, here are a few more dressy styles. I love the beautiful prints of these floral styles and can vouch for the MANGO dress which my friend Jess wore to her rehearsal dinner the night before her wedding a week ago – she looked stunning.

Plunge neck floral maxi, ASOS £55 // Cross back Silk maxi, MANGO £129 // Floral Maxi, Warehouse £80

And lastly, a little selection for my fellow pregnant ladies. The pickings are slim as always(!) but I bought this striking emerald maxi for a couple of occasions I have coming up this summer (as I’ll be in full bloom!) and think it would dress down just as well with flat sandals. I also like the bandeau style to prevent strap marks on sunny days and the Gap dress for casual ease.

Emerald knot front dress, Seraphine £59 // Twist back maxi, GAP £34.99 // Bandeau (with detachable straps) maxi, ASOS £45

Have you spotted any gorgeous maxi’s or have I turned your head with one of these?

Ted Baker – BELLETA – Scallop detail dress – £159

I feel in limbo right now when it comes to fashion. In the last week, my concious has shifted from being disinterested in fashion, fed up of sales and with adequate clothes for the ongoing warmer weather, to curiosity over what’s in store for AW13.

For some reason I keep getting that September feeling already. The back to school vibe that makes me want a new school coat and shoes. Maybe it’s my sister moving in and starting a new job, maybe it’s the odd rainy day breaking through, but already I’m wanting to buy Autumn fashion, knowing it’s too early yet and I should enjoy the last of the summer.

Todays frock felt right to bridge the gap. Perfect with tanned legs for an occasion ensemble, it’s the type of dress that after a few formal outings I’d start wearing to work with opaque tights and flats come the cooler months. Red looks great in the summer teamed with navy or nude, but even better in the winter layered with berry shades and black.

What do you think readers? Have a great weekend!

Rebecca

Friday Frock O’clock

With the weather warming up and summer officially beginning today, it seems like an apt time to talk about my love for a little white dress.

L-R: Lemine £129 // Iris £47 // Pam £195 – All from Reiss

Before I got married I had a thing about white dresses. I loved them, but I always felt like people would think I was desperate to get married if I wore white. Looking back it seems really silly now, but as a result it was rare that I wore white. I’m naturally olive toned in the skin department and being dark haired, I think white works really well for me. The only thing I don’t love is the pesky marks you get on white clothes when you pair them with sunscreen. (Has anybody found a formulation that doesn’t do that?)

Rather aptly, as their sale started this week, Reiss has got some great white dresses. I’ll leave it to you guys to guess which is my absolute favourite but I have to say, I’d wear any of them in a flash this summer. 😉

Happy weekend readers!

Love,
Rebecca
