Friday Frock O’clock: The Christmas Party edition

Black sequin Dress – Mango // Red checked dress – ASOS // Sequin Shoulder Navy dress – French Connection

I know it’s not really ‘Christmas yet’ but when it comes to Christmas parties, I wouldn’t be surprised if some of you have had yours already. Mine is on the 7th and as a result, finding something to wear has been on my priority list for a while. Whilst I’ve been looking, I’ve spotted quite a few dresses and thought I’d do a little selection for various occasions as the dresses are quite different. In reality, we all have different styles and budgets and I personally tend to wear the same dress for each occasion listed above, as different groups of friends are involved and it gets better wear out of the dress.

First up, this classic black sparkly number would be perfect for a work or office party. It’s acceptable to flash a little leg but you won’t get the obligatory leering as your chest is well covered up. Pair with patent pointed courts for extra polish and a sparkly clutch and see how many times over the years you come back to this one at the back of your wardrobe. I can totally see it on Christmas day too with a jumper layered under and flats or boots.

The wild card, I couldn’t help but choose this cheeky checked number in the most festive of reds. I’m imagining it with comedy bauble earrings, a slick of crimson lipstick and a cocktail in hand. It’s a cooler look so teaming with ankle boots looks fresher, or even a pair of brogues. Add tights and a parka for Christmas Eve at the pub or Christmas carols on the green. At £44, I don’t think it’s too much for a season specific dress either.

Lastly, my favourite, this one is also for all the pregnant ladies looking for something festive this year. In my favourite forgiving t-shirt silhouette it would gracefully disguise or skim a bump up to about 6 months or more I think, and work for all of the occasions above. From my point of view, I think it’s going to be a great option to allow all the indulgence that Christmas brings and cover a bit of post-christmas bulge when it’s time to glam up again for New Year. ;) Although it’s on the pricey side, look out for a friend with a student discount card (15% off) or wait for the sale for a small discount usually just before Christmas. I have bought several of these dresses in similar styles over the years and still have them all, so they’ll definitely go the distance.

And if you’re breast feeding (I always get asked for pregnancy and BF dresses during the party season,) this looks like a possible option and forgiving of the mum-tum.

Now it’s your turn readers, pick a favourite here and tell me what you’re wearing this Christmas!

Friday Frock O’clock

Despite the fact I have more than enough house stuff on my to-do list, my wardrobe is also something I’m having to pay some attention to. In spring I had a massive wardrobe clear out, thinking that I would update all the autumn/winter pieces I gave to charity in the coming season. Little did I know I would move house and be flat broke! Both my casual and work wardrobe have suffered and I’d usually turn to Whistles for a few reliable work dresses but can’t find much I like, particularly at a good price point. I did however stumble across this one from French Connection.

French Connection Fast City Block dress

I like my work clothes to be fairly covered up so there’s nothing to distract from the matter in hand, so the speak! My room is perpetually cold and something comfortable is a bonus, so this jersey number fits the bill whilst remaining flattering. I often spend 10 hours at my desk and this will look as good as it feels.

Where do you get your work clothes from readers, and does anyone know when the next French Connection discount event is?

Friday Frock O’clock

Today you will have to forgive me for going back to Whistles again after already mentioning their sale once. It’s worth a look though, as their second round of reductions yesterday saw a ton of gorgeous pieces being added to the sale and today’s frock is one of them.

Whistles Daisy Dress – £95

I love the sporty vibe of this simple shift. It happens to fit me perfectly, and the sheer top panel with neon trim give a bit of edge and up the wearability to smarter occasions. Plus, you’ve got to love a dress with pockets. ;)

Even if this style isn’t for you, if you’re a fan of Whistles, make sure you go on over and check out the new sale additions (Shhh! It’s way better than the first round!)

I’m off to Cambridge this weekend to see friends for a party… I’ve never been before so I’m looking forward to it. Is there anything I should definitely do or see (or eat?!)

Aloha Spring Dress – French Connection

Today’s Friday Frock from French Connection is right up my street. In my neutral of choice, navy, with a stunning embellished panel in subtle peach and coral tropical florals, it has added sophistication from the sheer top panel.

I also love that it’s a great one for those of you who like flashing your pins and works equally well for those who are super slim or are feeling less than completely confident about their tummy region. It will hide all manner of mid-section sins whilst you get on with exuding style and confidence ;)

Happy Friday readers!

Friday Frock O’clock

Rather than my usual interest in trend-led fashion this week I’ve been working on my, ahem, work wardrobe. I’ll be the first to admit, I don’t wear ‘office wear’ for my job as a GP. I also don’t dress how you would probably expect a GP to dress. I have several requirements for my work clothes. They must be washable (I do hand wash, but rarely bother to get to the dry cleaners,) appropriate in a professional sense (no gaping bust or skirts that ride up,) both when standing and sitting, and be comfortable. That said, I like to show a bit of FF style personality!

So, I found this dress in the French Connection sale and snapped it up.

Raquella Dress, French Connection sale

It’s in a washable cotton, has the tiniest hint of a peplum, in a figure flattering fitted shape. Add to that my favourite navy shade and a pattern that remains professional yet has some personality about it, and I’m all set for the working day, not forgetting my patent satchel and pretty blue brogues for a serious touch ;)
