What to Wear: The new colour block…

Today’s What to Wear is something I saw and just immediately loved. I’ve already featured it in this post, about the Bric-a-bloc new take on colour blocking trend and I think it has a lot to do with the fact that the colour way feels fresh and new, and is a little bit 70’s with the neutrals and orange.

Skirt – Whistles // Organic Cotton Tee – Zara // Foldable Hat – Christys // Bag – Marc by Marc Jacobs // Sandals – Dune (old) // Bangle – H&M // Nails – Nails Inc: Toes – Flouro Portobello Road and Fingers – Strawberry scented sheer Henley Regatta //

The Whistles skirt is so easy to wear. I was in San Francisco when these were taken and wore it for a walk on the Embarcadero, breakfast, a spot of browsing in the farmers market then a longer walk to see the Sea Lions at Pier 39. It’s cool and has a really lovely drape to it, didn’t crease in my case, and works just as well with a white vest or later in the year I’ll be teaming it with a slouchy navy jumper.

For now however, I thought it was just begging to be paired with straw and I bought this Marc by Marc Jacobs bag in Macys during an awesome ‘Girls weekend’ promotion giving 25% off. Result. A bright flouro coral, I didn’t think it would work with orange but seems to take on an orange hue when the two are together, then looking pinker when I paired it with the coral and pink items I brought with me.

Look out for more about the hat… it was possibly my favourite and most useful holiday item, keeping my face out of the sun for the whole 12 days.

Love,

What to Wear: Whistles Wisteria print…

Today’s what to wear is really just an excuse to share one of my favourite frocks this season. Already featured as a Friday Frock of course, Florence Finds fashion and these ‘What to Wear‘ posts in particular, are just about showing you what they look like on a real person, not a stick thin model. Hopefully you’ll find them useful as Whistles themselves use very slender models indeed for their promotional and online stock shots.

Whistles Wisteria print dress // French Connection Connie Jacket // Shoes – Mulberry (SS’11) // Bag Marc by Marc Jacobs (AW’10)

A long time fan of Whistles, I fell in love with this print instantly and was delighted to see it adorning something other than one of their signature dress styles. I love this shape of dress, it’s flattering and super easy to wear, plus it’s perfect for those occasions when you want to live a little in your dress and I don’t know, eat or something. 😉

On this particular occasion I wore it to dinner on my 30th birthday, which was a Thursday and Pete and I headed to Australasia in Manchester. Because of the glorious yellows and lilac’s in the print I accessorised with my yellow Marc by Marc Jacobs handbag with the strap tucked in to make an oversized clutch and some fabulous Mulberry wedges that I picked up in the My-Wardrobe.com sale last summer. I like the retro T-bar style with school shoe-like buckles teamed with a very grown up sky high wedge. Of course as it was absolutely freezing, I threw over my ‘goes with everything’ nude French Connection Connie Jacket.

The Wisteria print is available in a Jacket (love), trouser, (double love) and top as well as this dress. And while we’re on the subject, there’s a £15 voucher for Whistles in this month’s Elle magazine too.

Lots of floral love,
Rebecca

The Fash Flash – Party Accessories

Erm, Hello!

That’s what you’ll all be thinking when you clap your eyes on the fanciest heels and standout bags in today’s Fash Flash. I was loving putting them together!

Lets get straight on down to it. You’ll see I’ve grouped my top picks by trend today, to make it easier for you to take the ideas away, even if the exact item you want isn’t here. Enjoy!

There seem to be about a million pairs of shoes I could buy just now, but there are some really strong trends that I’ve grouped together here, including a small offering of flats for those of you who just can’t bear the pain of a heel for an all-nighter or are endowed with glamazonian height. 😉

The Shoe Boots: Sheer zebra stripe boot, Topshop, Frill boot – Zara and Simba V-throat shoe boots – Topshop.
The Metallics: Multi-colour glitter heels – Carvela, Garbo Deco Piped Sandal (Emerald green) – Reiss and Showcase Double Platform Peeptoes (Bronze metallic) – Topshop.
The Statement Heel: Saturn Gold heel peeptoes – Reiss, Taupe suede heels with studs, Sam Edleman at My-Wardrobe.com and Strut Metal heel platform shoes (blue velvet) – Topshop.
Party Flats: Glitter pump – Marks & Spencer. Pale pink sparkle ballet flat and silver snake skin flat with ankle strap, both Zara.

Christmas Party Bags

I am a self confessed perfectionist when it comes to bags – they are my ‘thing’. Therefore I either buy cheap throw away high street fashion or splurge on super expensive keep-forever pieces. That said, I’d take a couple of these high street offerings over a more expensive one, particularly the puma clutch. Make yours a hard case box bag, massive envelope for statement style, or a shimmering accent to a block colour dress.

Box Bags: Reiss octagonal ‘Comet’ clutch bag, Velvet Frame clutch bag – Topshop and Snake hardcase Puma clutch bag – Accessorize.
Glitter Bags:Jane at the Disco cross body bag, Marc by Marc Jacobs at My-Wardrobe.com. Gold Sequinned wallet and Aztec Sequin wallet – Zara.
Oversized Envelopes: Contrast piping clutch – Accessorize,
Humbug clutch (green zip front) Kurt Geiger and Pink Suede envelope clutch – Accessorize.

Did I not tell you you would love them?

Share your pleasure at the pretty ladies 😉

Love,
Rebecca
