Triple temptation: Sparkling sneaks

Carvela Jasper // Dune Ennis // Kurt Geiger Lucca

I’ve always been a jeans and converse girl at the weekends and now more than ever I’m in flats and re-discovering my love of trainers. I’m in need of an update in the shoe department this spring and top of my hit list are some statement trainers to give that breton tee and jeans a little edge. What could be better than leopard and glitter?

Triple Temptation: Leopard skates

Dune Leopard skates // Bertie Leopard skates // Kurt Geiger Leopard skates

One of the trends I was a little unsure about trying this season that I took the leap with was my leopard skater shoes slip-on’s. I went for it due to their sheer practicality, and was absolutely right. I haven’t had them off and they go equally well with dresses or trousers. One additional benefit? If I happen to get caught in the rain, the sole is deep enough to prevent wet feet and splashes brush off th peony skin easily. Mine were an ASOS bargain, but these were all shoes I looked at. If you’re a little afraid of the full coverage at the front, try the Dune pair. They’re a slightly lower fronted style. The Kurt Geiger pair are a beaut if you feel like splashing out. The colours of the leopard print are really luxe.

Would you go for a skater shoe?

Fash Flash: Summer Shoes

There were some murmurings on Twitter recently about work appropriate shoes for summer and it can’t be only me who has been feeling stifled in shoes during these warmer days.

I’m in the market myself for some smarter sandals that are work appropriate so thought I’d have a look for some options – the bonus is that many of these are in the sale or will soon go in, so there are bargains to be had!

Obviously, ‘work appropriate’ is a relative term and really depends on your place of work. I am lucky enough to be pretty flexible about what I wear but I appreciate some offices may be much more formal and other places more accepting of trend led styles.

Tips for keeping it work appropriate:

  • Check your work policy about open toed shoes
  • Choose Tan for a classic look that goes with your whole wardrobe or modern neutrals (white/nude/khaki/navy/animal print/metallics)
  • A low wedge can look smarter than the same shoe when flat soled.
  • Done right, a block colour can lift a conservative outfit and not look casual.
  • Look for good foot coverage – i.e. wider straps and formal details for fastening
  • Avoid ‘thong’ or flip flop toe post styles
  • Unless you work in a high fashion environment, avoid ‘flatforms’.
  • Avoid woven or punched leather and canvas finishes.

Dawn orange suedette flat £45 (also available in white) // GAP two band tan leather sandal £29.95 (also in black) // Kurt Geiger London Dahlia gold sandals £99 (also in nude or leopard calf hair) // Flexi-P calf hair blue sandal, Steve Madden at Dune £32 (also in B&W animal print)

Flats this season are all about the wide strap which is lucky as it’s a little more office appropriate if you are allowed to get your toes out. Metal plaque details also up the smart factor.

Maximilla navy low wedge Nine West £99 (also in white, black and nude) // Baylee6 gold low heel court, Anne Klein at Kurt Geiger £65 // Amber blue suede low wedge, Carvela £65

If you feel better with a little lift, but can’t face a proper heel, the mid or low heel is also bang on trend and wedges work really well for summer. Peep toes are perfect for a bit of cooling ventilation too.

GAP tan wedge £45 // Silver wide strap heels, Office £60 // Unice leather wedge heel, French Connection £95 // Gia buckle heel navy shoe, Whistles £185

For higher heels, look for a block heel or wedge and again those wide straps to kept the look fresh and modern, although I take my hat off to anyone with the patience to wear a pair like this to work when it’s hot!

Have you seen any work summer shoes readers?

The Fash Flash: Suited and Booted

Where previously I had always thought that knee high boots were the way forward, for seasons now ankle boots have been striding to the forefront of fashion. A few of you have mentioned looking for the perfect pair this season so I thought I would do a round up of a few I have seen, (courtesy of a shopping trip with Francesca for the perfect ankle pair.) Of course you’ll need them in brown and black, 😉 or why not try a mid greige shade to work with either tone?

H&M //  Aldo // H&M
Dune // Aldo // Dune

I’d love to know which are your favourites here? Do you prefer brown or black? And have I missed any bargains or fabulous finds you have spotted?

Monday Must-Have: Glitter heels

When I created the Monday Must-Have series, it was intended to showcase a single item or type of thing that was on my mind at the time of writing. Maybe seasonal, maybe just a good ‘find’, it’s more often than not something I’m coveting or searching out because, without sounding overly dramatic, my life doesnt feel complete without it. Perhaps a little extreme but never were a truer word spoken than about these shoes. 😉

If asked, I would never consider myself a ‘shoe person’ when pitted against bags for example, however occasionally a particular style or shoe gets right under my skin. Carvela’s Gold Glitter shoe had me at ‘glitter’ and at the end of last week they went into the sale. Now a much more palatable £75, Antibes will live in your wardrobe for years just waiting to pep up some jeans for a modern spin on party wear, or teamed with an old faithful LBD or colour block dress, will feel anything but boring.

They are my Monday absolutely-MUST-have. And aren’t they the best thing you have seen so far this morning?

Saturday Survey

Happy weekend everybody!

I’m having a relaxed one and hopefully spending some QT with Pete. We went to a wedding last night and now I’m nursing a bit of a sore head with a long to-do list to get started on! Later on my Mum and step-Dad are coming over – we’re treating them to dinner at Alberts for his birthday, then tomorrow I’m cooking Fish Pie for Mother’s Day and my sister is coming over.

This week it’s just one question for you, but first, five things from me to you 🙂

Five things…

The new Dashing magazine is out!

A little sneak peek of my dining room make-over coming up on the blog next week…

And speaking of sneaky peeks, last month I shared a favourite corner in my home on Getting it Swoonworthy. It’s an antique scandanavian cupboard which I use to display my accessories, and you can peep inside it here.

My new nail crush? Neon and nude. Get it here from Nails Inc

Saturday Survey.
There’s really only one question on my mind this week, and it seems appropriate given that it’s Mothers Day tomorrow.

I’d like to know where you are in terms of having a family?

Are you…

  • Not in a relationship
  • In a relationship but not married
  • Married without kids
  • Thinking about starting a family
  • Already a parent

I hope it’s not too personal a question…

What are you doing and what did you get your Mum for Mother’s day?

The Fash Flash – Party Accessories

Erm, Hello!

That’s what you’ll all be thinking when you clap your eyes on the fanciest heels and standout bags in today’s Fash Flash. I was loving putting them together!

Lets get straight on down to it. You’ll see I’ve grouped my top picks by trend today, to make it easier for you to take the ideas away, even if the exact item you want isn’t here. Enjoy!

There seem to be about a million pairs of shoes I could buy just now, but there are some really strong trends that I’ve grouped together here, including a small offering of flats for those of you who just can’t bear the pain of a heel for an all-nighter or are endowed with glamazonian height. 😉

The Shoe Boots: Sheer zebra stripe boot, Topshop, Frill boot – Zara and Simba V-throat shoe boots – Topshop.
The Metallics: Multi-colour glitter heels – Carvela, Garbo Deco Piped Sandal (Emerald green) – Reiss and Showcase Double Platform Peeptoes (Bronze metallic) – Topshop.
The Statement Heel: Saturn Gold heel peeptoes – Reiss, Taupe suede heels with studs, Sam Edleman at My-Wardrobe.com and Strut Metal heel platform shoes (blue velvet) – Topshop.
Party Flats: Glitter pump – Marks & Spencer. Pale pink sparkle ballet flat and silver snake skin flat with ankle strap, both Zara.

Christmas Party Bags

I am a self confessed perfectionist when it comes to bags – they are my ‘thing’. Therefore I either buy cheap throw away high street fashion or splurge on super expensive keep-forever pieces. That said, I’d take a couple of these high street offerings over a more expensive one, particularly the puma clutch. Make yours a hard case box bag, massive envelope for statement style, or a shimmering accent to a block colour dress.

Box Bags: Reiss octagonal ‘Comet’ clutch bag, Velvet Frame clutch bag – Topshop and Snake hardcase Puma clutch bag – Accessorize.
Glitter Bags:Jane at the Disco cross body bag, Marc by Marc Jacobs at My-Wardrobe.com. Gold Sequinned wallet and Aztec Sequin wallet – Zara.
Oversized Envelopes: Contrast piping clutch – Accessorize,
Humbug clutch (green zip front) Kurt Geiger and Pink Suede envelope clutch – Accessorize.

Did I not tell you you would love them?

Share your pleasure at the pretty ladies 😉

Love,
Rebecca
