Today’s prompt is most definitely a January job. It’s got everything covered – tidying up moments from 2012, brightening your day, and making you feel better than the weather! It’s also got the important role of giving me a kick up the behind with things I’m always meaning to do. And I bet if I were to ask you what was in your top ten of things you are always meaning to get around to but never have time, you would say organising all those brilliant photos you spend so much time taking?
I am the world’s worst at creating photo books. Since the digital age arrived and my photos go straight from camera to computer, I enjoy looking back at them on there but never create anything tangible. After our incredible road trip last year to Yosemite, Sequoia, Death Valley and Vegas, I needed to make an album and I’m pleased to say I’m now midway through finally creating and recording some of my own memories. My go-to photo book creator is Bob Books. You simply download the free software and design away to your heart’s content. If you’re after something a little more text heavy, I believe Blurb is excellent but haven’t ever tried them.
Since them however, I’ve discovered something even better. How many of you use your phones more than your proper camera for snaps now? Do you use apps for your iPhone or android mobile like Instagram with its cool filters and effects that take an average photo to amazing in 3 seconds flat? Those little snaps are such a record of our lives that they deserve to be preserved in the same way. Plus, I’ve taken some pretty kick ass spur of the moment shots (of my niece for example,) on Instagram and worried that the resolution wouldn’t be big enough to blow up into a print. I have used Firebox before to print Instagram images into polaroid type shots but then I found Inkifi. Specifically for printing Instagram photos, you can make simple prints, canvases, acrylic box framed prints, even greetings cards and montages.
So, have I prompted you into doing something with all those photos? Do you have any companies or services to recommend or do you like a good old fashioned album? I’d love to hear your top five jobs that never EVER get done 😉
PS. How cute is this idea for collating children’s artwork?
I’m having a love affair with circles right now – or more specifically, cutting images out to look like circles. Did you see my new blog buttons on the right? There are ways to do it in Photoshop (which I use to produce all the images for this blog and also teach with Michelle on the Dream. Find. Do. workshop,) but trust Apple to come up with an instant way. Now you can get the circle frame effect for iPhone simply with an app, Roundography.
It costs 69p from the App store and once you have created your image (you can use the camera or select one from your album,) you can choose a variety of filters and export it to other applications like twitter, facebook and instagram, or save it to your phone.
When I started looking through this months Instagram images for my October re-cap I realised I hadn’t taken as many as usual… probably a reflection of how busy this month has been. I’ve been to London twice, once for the Cosmo Blog Awards, spent a weekend at home for my Mum’s birthday, the following weekend at my nephews Christening and the one after that marked the start of our holiday. Anyway, here’s a round up of the little things I’ve snapped this month. You’ll have to wait for more holiday updates!
I thought I’d do this months Instagram round up a little differently and focus on one area of my images as when I looked back, I realised they fall into distinct groups of fashion or outfit shots, food and my life behind the scenes. Maybe I’ll share another group next week…
Now, you know I like a gadget here at Florence Finds. Not only do I love my iPhone (which Victoria kindly reviewed when the 4S was released,) but I’m addicted to Instagram. You guys see my monthly round ups courtesy of my almost daily Instagram snaps and now I’ve found something that makes your Instagram pics even prettier. Or just your random snapshots for that matter. It’s the best iPhone App I’ve found in ages and it’s called Picfx.
Just like Instagram, or Hipstamatic for that matter, it lets you digitally adjust your images with filters, effects and frames for a vintage, artistic, or just outrageously pretty look. I’ve used the same image of my bedside table throughout this post so you can see the difference and each one is labelled with the name of the effect I used on it.
Red Grunge and Space, Nebula
I’m totally obsessed with the prettiness of some of the amazing shots you can take, and I am soooo excited about using it to capture my holiday snaps and share with you all. It fully integrates (with no faffing around,) with Instagram, twitter, your email and other social networks.
It’s that time, another month has passed us by and in some ways, with the weather we’ve had, I won’t be sad to say goodbye to April. However it has also been a monumental month for me, starting with my best friend’s birthday, taking in my own birthday and a friends wedding, so there has been lot of fun had. Here’s the behind the scenes, insider snapshots of what’s really been happening via my Instagram feed…
Easter weekend on Southport beach, looking at the Pier.
Fabulous lighting at birthday drinks in The Alchemist in Manchester. Officially my favourite cocktail bar and highly recommended if you’re in town.
For your entertainment, the funniest birthday card I received…
Washing my make-up brushes. How often do you wash yours? I just wet mine and swirl them in the palm of my hand with a little shampoo then let them dry over night, every week or two. Try it.
My current nail combos – Lilac on hands, navy on toes. I’ve glittered all my toes, but just my ring fingers on the hands. I can’t believe how versatile this glitter polish has been actually. So far I’ve layered it over fuschia pink, minty blue, yellow, navy and lilac.
The new Love of my Life… Nine West shoes. (Did I mention they do them in black?)
Revelling in peony season… more coming later this week from Becky.
How was your April?
PS. Wondering how I made the graphic up there? Here’s the tutorial.
It’s only the 29th but it’s time to share a bit of behind the scenes action with you from my month, captured on Instagrid.me. I’ve been working so much this month that I haven’t had as much to share with you, but I hope you enjoy them all the same.
(Don’t forget, you’ve already seen lots of my Instagram pics in my Nottinghill, Shoreditch and Hoxton Hotel reviews…)
How I spend my Saturday mornings… Yes, I’m still going to Brit Mil Fit. Yes, it’s still great 🙂 No, I haven’t lost any weight. Hmph.
It’s kind of a cool day to be wrapping up the month here on Florence Finds, being the 29th and all – it feels like a time warp kinda day, like it’s not really here. But hey, I’m always looking for that extra hour in the day so let’s embrace it! In the spirit of extra time, there are three posts today, but first up, a sneak inside my life, via Instagram. Warning, if you are allergic to pink, perhaps better look away now.
L-R, top to bottom…
Reading matter on the plane to Italy and ski-ing, then enjoying the view on the piste
Re-discovering possibly one of my favourite ever sweet treats, belgian waffles, excellent with maple syrup, ice cream and blueberries. Now that’s a breakfast right there.
Pink and black for drinks on a cold night with Penny
The cotton wool game at a baby shower last weekend… have you played it? Surprisingly hard and surprisingly hilarious!
I stayed at the Leeds Malmaison last weekend – from now on I’d like all of my butter to come wrapped in greaseproof paper packets like this please. Full report to come.
PenDo. There may have been karaoke involved. That’s all I’m saying. Full (fash) review to come…
Final outfit with the pink trews, stripes, spring florals and the (Whistles) leather jacket again, which I’m very much enjoying after months of ignoring it, following over-use last year.
What have been the highlights of your month readers? Anything to look forward to in March?
PS, Don’t forget to email me and request your invite to the Florence Finds Afternoon Tea! Just under half of the spaces have been taken, so hurry up and email me! (All of those who have requested an invite should have received their paypal money request by now, if not – please email me and I can check I’ve not missed you out.)
It’s nearing the end of January (and it hasn’t been that bad after all with Florence to help you through now has it?) So it’s time I shared a bit of ‘behind the scenes’ info in the shape of my Instagram snaps for January.
Wardrobe rehab – watch out for more on this coming soon, Florence’s tips on how to clean up, clear out and get ready for the new fashion .
I can’t believe it’s the end of November already and almost Christmas!
It’s been a crazy busy month for me, only the second of Florence Finds but I’m so happy with how everything is going.
I thought once a month I might share some insights into what I’ve been doing this month using my Instagram photos – those of you who follow me on Twitter may have seen these already, but if not, I hope you like having a little nosey!
Top row: Remember that Cinnamon bread? I got my new business cards 🙂 and treated us to some new bedding – the white set was getting bit tired and I fancied something cosy for winter… a grey toned checked pattern from M&S.
Second Row: Snaps from the Laura Ashley press day, Cupcakes at work for Children in Need and digging out my favourite winter bag.
Third Row: Stripping the red wallpaper in our Dining room, ready for our current decoration project – it’s in full swing – more to come! The tiniest visitor to our house when we had friends to stay with their 11 week baby. My Warehouse jumper purchased after this post.
Fourth Row: Rouge Noir for my winter toe tidy, A DIY necklace (coming soon) and the shop window at Blossom – full of snow and owls for Christmas – A.Mazing.
How was your November? And did your other half do Movember?
