Friday [Bridesmaid] Frock O’clock

Last weekend was Jessica’s wedding and I missed sharing a friday frock with you all as I was running around like a headless chicken, picking up last minute items, decorating the marquee, practicing my walk down the aisle and preening Jess, (In another life I should have been a nail technician…) I hope I can make it up to you all today by sharing my outfit.

Fortunately Jess and I agreed that something grown up and elegant was what she wanted her bridesmaids in. All three of us are married ladies (and two are mummies,) so it seemed more appropriate to look for a thoroughly grown up dress. We’re all pretty different shapes and sizes too so it needed to be flattering for everyone (the usual bridesmaids issue,) and I was really hoping for comfortable, for eating and dancing.

Dreamy photography by the lovely Julia West of Julia and You, my hair (which I loved) by Cassandra Rizzuto

In the end, once Jess decided on peach as her colour scheme, I spotted this. Luckily we all loved it, including Jess, as it was the first and the last dress I saw in an appropriate shade and style all summer. I ended up accessorising with a beaded sparkling headband, crystal deco style earrings, a matching bag and a grey enamel floral cuff that I can’t find a picture of online anywhere. Unusually, I went for sandals, as a full shoe wouldn’t have been appropriate with the dress and managed to keep my almost 5 inch heels on all night.

When Jess is back from honeymoon I’ll share all the details – I can’t wait. But for now, you can see a sneak peek of the wedding on Julia’s blog. I hope you liked it – I loved every minute.

Have a fabulous weekend readers!

Love,
Rebecca

Friday Frock O’clock

There’s just one more week left of August, one week of summer, until September rolls round and the new season begins in ernest.

Leopard Jacquard Skater Dress

As such I’ve chosen a transitional dress…

I couldn’t go with colour this week, the brights of summer seem gone even though the weather is warm, but I’m ready for new fashion all the same and this fits the bill. While the seasons and styles may be changing, monochrome and animal print are eternal ;)

So, what’s everyone doing this weekend? I’m planning a social marathon ahead of the most exciting wedding of the year next week… Jessica’s!

Happy weekend folks,

Rebecca

Friday Frock O’clock

Khaki shirt dress, H&M – £24.99

Whilst I was browsing around for a friday frock this week I found this and couldn’t help but think of Becca (who is going on her safari honeymoon next month) so this one is for you!

I remember how hard it was to dress appropriately for safari without looking like a ranger-wannabe-safari-victim but I think this would do the job nicely and do double duty on other parts of the holiday – city sight seeing or with heels for night, then once again in the office back at work. At a mere £25, it’s a hardworking dress.

I hope you have a great weekend readers – I’ll be sadly returning from Cornwall tomorrow but ready to start the countdown to Jess’s wedding!

Rebecca

Ted Baker – BELLETA – Scallop detail dress – £159

I feel in limbo right now when it comes to fashion. In the last week, my concious has shifted from being disinterested in fashion, fed up of sales and with adequate clothes for the ongoing warmer weather, to curiosity over what’s in store for AW13.

For some reason I keep getting that September feeling already. The back to school vibe that makes me want a new school coat and shoes. Maybe it’s my sister moving in and starting a new job, maybe it’s the odd rainy day breaking through, but already I’m wanting to buy Autumn fashion, knowing it’s too early yet and I should enjoy the last of the summer.

Todays frock felt right to bridge the gap. Perfect with tanned legs for an occasion ensemble, it’s the type of dress that after a few formal outings I’d start wearing to work with opaque tights and flats come the cooler months. Red looks great in the summer teamed with navy or nude, but even better in the winter layered with berry shades and black.

What do you think readers? Have a great weekend!

Rebecca

Another Friday, another perfect summer frock… :)

ETHNIC STYLE DRESS, MANGO £29.99

This weekend I’m taking Pete to CarFest – he is obsessed with cars, old and new, so it was a good birthday present for him when I was stuck earlier in the year. I’m looking forward to watching The Feeling in the evening and eating lots of festival food. So when I spotted this dress, I had festival style on my mind and I can’t think of anything more perfect to wear with boots or wellies, a throw on raincoat and cross body bag. I love the ikat-esque print and blue is a real staple in my wardrobe, all for under £30!

What are you doing this weekend readers? I hope you’re planning a good one wherever you are.

Truth be told I haven’t done a lot of shopping recently. I’ve been living in the same cool and easy pieces because it is way too hot to be spending a day shopping and hanging around in changing rooms. It’s also that difficult time of year when the shops turn into a sale wasteland, you’re pining for some fresh fashion inspiration, yet the new stock looks dark and miserable. I had resigned myself to not finding anything when I decided to check Zara out and found this in their new season collection.

Zara Bird Print Dress – £45.00

Oriental prints are making a slow comeback in fashion right now and there’s going to be a lot more of them in the AW13 colections. I’ve never worn a lot of red but I love the vibrant shade of this dress and the fresh white cranes or storks with their nod to the Orient, yet no hint of the fancy dress about them.

At £45 I think it’s a bit of a steal. Run, don’t walk readers…

It’s white hot out there folks and as a result I’m going a little left field. Not a frock today but my favourite alternative, the playsuit…

Jacquard Playsuit – Warehouse, £40 (from £60)

Dressing for a hen do is tricky I think. I don't tend to buy that many clothes that are suitable for a full on night on the town these days, preferring a relaxed casual look, even for dining out. For this night I wanted something fun and flirty that I would be comfortable enough in to eat and drink.

Do you remember that Mango dress I posted? Well, I had my heart set on that floral number but it had sold out everywhere. I even resorted to looking online for a larger size to have altered and had my sister scouring Birmingham and Mum in Liverpool. Once I resigned myself to the fact it was gone, I had about a week to find something else and no time to do it in. I spotted this on the Warehouse website, walked into store and found it had been reduced that very day. Even better, it fit like a glove. Apologies for the indoor rubbish photo but I was having too much fun to get a proper one while we were out! ;) (Jessica’s dress, entirely hen appropriate I thought, was from French Connection in case you’re wondering.)

Fate, no?

Enjoy the sunshine this weekend readers – I’m off to Glasgow!

In the gorgeous weather we have been having I’m all about the summer dress right now. Something cool and comfy that takes you from picnic to BBQ to pool party (yeah, I wish,) to strolling through the fields.

Totem Embroidered Skater Dress – Warehouse, £55

One of my criteria for such a dress is that it’s not too precious. In my experience summer activities can be a bit messy, sitting on the grass for example or having a ketchup related incident. I hate wearing clothes that I have to worry about and get in the way of just enjoying the moment, so for all the above reasons this Warehouse dress is a winner.

I used to have a gorgeous embroidered French Connection dress that was cream and similar to this but it’s gone off and is a little tatty now so this will replace that one. It’s shorter and flirtier but mid-shred the thighs are looking presentable and thanks to the weather a little more golden, so I say get ‘em out ladies!

I’m looking forward to the most relaxed weekend too. Pete is away on Dan’s stag so I shall mostly be reading in the garden, tending the allotment, making poms poms with Jess for the wedding and my Mum is coming to help me finish the spare room curtains.

What is everyone else doing and wearing this weekend? Hope you all enjoy it wherever you are. :)

Today you will have to forgive me for going back to Whistles again after already mentioning their sale once. It’s worth a look though, as their second round of reductions yesterday saw a ton of gorgeous pieces being added to the sale and today’s frock is one of them.

Whistles Daisy Dress – £95

I love the sporty vibe of this simple shift. It happens to fit me perfectly, and the sheer top panel with neon trim give a bit of edge and up the wearability to smarter occasions. Plus, you’ve got to love a dress with pockets. ;)

Even if this style isn’t for you, if you’re a fan of Whistles, make sure you go on over and check out the new sale additions (Shhh! It’s way better than the first round!)

I’m off to Cambridge this weekend to see friends for a party… I’ve never been before so I’m looking forward to it. Is there anything I should definitely do or see (or eat?!)

Happy Weekend readers!

With the weather warming up and summer officially beginning today, it seems like an apt time to talk about my love for a little white dress.

L-R: Lemine £129 // Iris £47 // Pam £195 – All from Reiss

Before I got married I had a thing about white dresses. I loved them, but I always felt like people would think I was desperate to get married if I wore white. Looking back it seems really silly now, but as a result it was rare that I wore white. I’m naturally olive toned in the skin department and being dark haired, I think white works really well for me. The only thing I don’t love is the pesky marks you get on white clothes when you pair them with sunscreen. (Has anybody found a formulation that doesn’t do that?)

Rather aptly, as their sale started this week, Reiss has got some great white dresses. I’ll leave it to you guys to guess which is my absolute favourite but I have to say, I’d wear any of them in a flash this summer. ;)

Happy weekend readers!
