Five on Friday…

Since the house is kind of getting there (i.e. the builder is more outside than inside now…) I’m thinking about the best methods of cleaning. Microfiber and e-cloths were a revelation for me in the fight against dust and dirt so I love posts like this one from Real Simple on the best cleaning supplies.

Do you smile then apply your blusher? I do, but wondered if that look was getting dated (after all, I’ve been doing it for at least 10 years!) so this post on how to apply your blusher perfectly was well timed.

Dana from one of my favourite interiors blogs House Tweaking is giving a whole house tour right now. She is working on an epic renovation and I love her style, so head on over for some serious interiors porn.

This weekend we are decorating the nursery and in an about turn after this moodboard, we’re going (surprise surprise, ) grey with this stunning paper. Check out their Ostrich paper too for a healthy dose of quirk that would look great in a bathroom or bedroom.

As this is the first proper weekend Pete and I have to ourselves with the new kitchen in, I’m planning on making the most of it and cooking a weekend breakfast. Pancakes are top of the list and I might try this recipe from Jamie Oliver’s protege, Anna Jones (she was one of the first trainees at Fifteen,) and her book is on modern veggie recipes – A Modern Way to Eat, check it out… (and the recipe here.)

Happy Friday readers,

Triple Temptation: Spring Palettes

Bobbi Brown // Nars // No.7

Every spring I’m tempted by the prettiest make up palettes that come out and look simply beautiful along with adding a bit of spring brightening sunshine to your make up look. Sometimes I feel like these are a bit of a folly but I have some lovely ones that I have used incessantly. As long as you pick colours that suit you it can be a hard working bit of kit. These are all brightening or blush compacts so likely to be the most useful of the possibilities out there and make a perfect spring treat for yourself or a gift for a friend.

Florence’s Favourite: Blush

Clockwise from top left: Chanel Joues Contrast and Irreelle Blush, Bobbi Brown Pot Rouge, Benefit Dallas, Nars blush, Bourjois little round pot blush and Bare Minerals blush

If you asked me what my desert island beauty item would be (yes ladies, get your thinking caps on, I’ll be asking for yours in a minute!) it’s an easy choice for me. I have friends who won’t leave the house without mascara, but my downfall is my skin tone, being a completely monochrome, not terribly attractive yellow tone. If I’m tired, if my skin isn’t good, if I’m rushing out… the one thing I’ll never leave behind is a blusher. It perks up my face, makes me look happier, healthier and generally less scary! 😉

Benefit Dallas – gives me a bit of a winter tan if I’m feeling pale! The Benefit blush I love as a cheaper peachy gold summer alternative to the Nars shade below…

Nars ‘Orgasm’ – the holy grail of blushers. A peachy, sexy flush, that I prefer in summer but works year-round. Bare Minerals, best used with mineral make up bases in ‘flowers’.

As a result of this, I have a vast collection of different blusher shades. Admittedly, I wear different shades all through the year, pure bright pinks in the winter when my skin is paler then as I pick up a slight bit of colour in summer, I move onto peaches with golden tones.

Back right, the Bobbi Brown Pot rouge in ‘powder pink’ – a cream blush that I apply with a foundation brush or dab with my finger tips – a little goes a long way!

My most recent find has been neutral-ish dusty pink which seems to work every single day. I tend to vary my makeup choices according to my mood and occasion, and if you’re playing up your eyes or lips, the last thing you want is to come out looking like a clown with bright rosy cheeks too. This neutral shade has been a godsend for pairing with just about every make-up look I can conjure up.

So, tell me readers, what’s your dessert island beauty item? One choice only!

Love,
Rebecca
