The Fash Flash: Summer Dresses

It’s been a little while since there has been any fashion on Florence’s pages so I figured it was time t go shopping! As the temperatures improve and sun comes out I’ve found myself casting off my tights and looking for more summery dresses to wear, both for casual days out and everyday at work. Here’s a little selection for you readers. Have you seen any dresses you’re lusting after lately?

White lace tunic dress £58 ASOS // Flouro print dress, Warehouse £85 // Blue twist dress, Oasis £30

The blue oasis dress would be perfect for work and with a navy jacket I think the printed shift could also do double duty with heels. Don’t you just want to waft about in a field in that boho lacy number too?

For those of you like me, who might not quite fit into regular fashion choices, here are my maternity selections. (Loving ASOS maternity for fashion picks.)

Summer blue stripe dress // Orange cross back dress // Monochrome floral dress, all £28 ASOS.

I bought the 2 straight midi dresses shown here for work and am just waiting for them to arrive. 🙂

Next up, summer maxi’s, watch this space…

Friday Frock O’clock

Right now, ASOS has 25% off dresses. When they’re already well priced, that means super bargains are there for the taking. Instead of outdated wintery styles as you so often get in mid-season sales, there are some dresses perfect for stocking up on for summer holidays and events, so I thought I’d pick 4 favourites today.

Embroidered cutwork dress // Origami heavy satin dress // Open back dress // Graphic floral maxi dress

Happy Friday readers,

Save or Splurge Style…

For a while now I have been thinking I should do a series of similar items that differ in price, but all too often after spotting things I then forget where I saw them.

Whistles Meghan brushed fur dress £125 // ASOS Animal print shift dress £40

These two shift dresses aren’t exactly the same but there’s more than a trace of similarity with spring appropriate colours and an animal print type pattern in a flattering shift style. And if you’re watching your spending like me, I think it’s a very good substitute for the pricier Whistles splurge dress.

What do you think? Save or splurge?

Friday Frock O’clock: The Christmas Party edition

Black sequin Dress – Mango // Red checked dress – ASOS // Sequin Shoulder Navy dress – French Connection

I know it’s not really ‘Christmas yet’ but when it comes to Christmas parties, I wouldn’t be surprised if some of you have had yours already. Mine is on the 7th and as a result, finding something to wear has been on my priority list for a while. Whilst I’ve been looking, I’ve spotted quite a few dresses and thought I’d do a little selection for various occasions as the dresses are quite different. In reality, we all have different styles and budgets and I personally tend to wear the same dress for each occasion listed above, as different groups of friends are involved and it gets better wear out of the dress.

First up, this classic black sparkly number would be perfect for a work or office party. It’s acceptable to flash a little leg but you won’t get the obligatory leering as your chest is well covered up. Pair with patent pointed courts for extra polish and a sparkly clutch and see how many times over the years you come back to this one at the back of your wardrobe. I can totally see it on Christmas day too with a jumper layered under and flats or boots.

The wild card, I couldn’t help but choose this cheeky checked number in the most festive of reds. I’m imagining it with comedy bauble earrings, a slick of crimson lipstick and a cocktail in hand. It’s a cooler look so teaming with ankle boots looks fresher, or even a pair of brogues. Add tights and a parka for Christmas Eve at the pub or Christmas carols on the green. At £44, I don’t think it’s too much for a season specific dress either.

Lastly, my favourite, this one is also for all the pregnant ladies looking for something festive this year. In my favourite forgiving t-shirt silhouette it would gracefully disguise or skim a bump up to about 6 months or more I think, and work for all of the occasions above. From my point of view, I think it’s going to be a great option to allow all the indulgence that Christmas brings and cover a bit of post-christmas bulge when it’s time to glam up again for New Year. 😉 Although it’s on the pricey side, look out for a friend with a student discount card (15% off) or wait for the sale for a small discount usually just before Christmas. I have bought several of these dresses in similar styles over the years and still have them all, so they’ll definitely go the distance.

And if you’re breast feeding (I always get asked for pregnancy and BF dresses during the party season,) this looks like a possible option and forgiving of the mum-tum.

Now it’s your turn readers, pick a favourite here and tell me what you’re wearing this Christmas!

Friday Frock O’clock

Today’s frock is the first one I have been excited about in WEEKS and I’ll tell you why…

Midi Frill sleeve dress £40, ASOS.

Years ago, around the time I started University, I found a gorgeous dress in the Topshop Unique section for a bargain £40 (although that was a lot for me back than,) in the sale. It was teal and made of super light silk, with a v-neck and seventies style frill sleeves. The edge of the neckline was satin ribbon and one day whilst ironing it I just touched the ribbon and it shrivelled into nothing causing a hole in the front of the dress. I was devastated and it took me years more to part with it – always with the vain hope I would some how figure out a way to fix it.

This dress is so similar in style from the front and the shape is so flattering – highlighting your naturally slimmest part at the bottom of the ribcage. It also has the addition of a sexy key hole back and a lovely length. It’s elegant and thoroughly grown up, just what you need as a wardrobe staple. Team with killer heels and this one will take you from work drinks to the Christmas party and everywhere inbetween, I promise. And in a twist of fate, it is also £40!

Happy weekend readers. I have big news for you next week!

Friday Frock O’clock

Denim Pinafore Dress £23, ASOS.

Is it me, or is ASOS on fire right now?

I never used to shop at ASOS, or if I did, it was more like you would in a department store, looking at brands they stock instead of their own range. I perceived it as too young and poor quality but I’ve realised once you get past the gazillion bodycon lycra-esque dresses, there’s some pretty up tot he minute items on there and you can’t fault the prices for a fashion fix. I really love ASOS Collection – their more ‘cutting edge’ London designed selection and it’s from there that this week (and last week’s) dress hails from.

I’m a real fan of dressing down at the weekend and am having a love affair with denim. Whilst you won’t find me getting back into my dungarees from my teenage years, there was something sweet about this pinafore dress that I loved and given the cool weather we’ve been having, I loved the idea of layering up with a long sleeved tee underneath. It’s a youthful look but I think with some ankle boots or preppy flats it could work all summer long and for £32, why not try the trend?

Happy weekend readers! I’m driving down south for a bit of wedding prep with Jess and hoping for glorious weather. I hope you enjoy it too 🙂

Friday Frock: What to Wear for The Biggest Night of Your Year

Today I’m signing off for Christmas, not before sorting out one last sartorial dilemma however! Florence Finds will be back to normal service on 2nd January and in fact I have something rather special to brighten up your January. In the meantime I’m making no promises and will blog as and when I have something to share, so keep your eyes on Twitter, Facebook or check back here when you have a bit of down time. You can also follow my Christmas on Instagram. (This is a web link if you don’t have Instagram on your phone.)

When I wrote the title to this post, I was alluding to your New Years Eve dress. If you’ve got somewhere to go, then your frock has to be something special for this most celebratory of nights. In fact, my biggest party of the year was a 30th Birthday for one of my good friends. A super stylish lady, I wanted to make an effort and found the perfect dress in the ASOS sale.

La la Lashes // Midi Dress with Holographic Embellishment (On Sale at £72 from £120!) // Faux Panther Clutch Bag // Shoes, Nine West (old) // Nails: ESSIE ‘Leading Lady’.

I had swapped my usual Zara clutch with my Mum to complete a wedding outfit for her the same weekend and used this Faux Panther Clutch of hers instead. I loved the slightly wild look to the decadent muscular panther clasp with subtle sparkle collar detail.

Of course, aside from the sparkle, the talking point of this dress is the back, or rather lack of. (And before anyone asks… I went without.) Teamed with a vampy blood red lip and Christmas nails, I felt super glamorous.

Of course, no party is complete without glowsticks and eye lashes. These lashes are by La la Lashes – the lash itself is quite a subtle effect but they are dusted in fine glitter and as a result when the light catches your lashes and with every blink, you get a subtle sparkle – they’re a cheap way of upping the glam factor if you don’t have a new dress to wear 🙂

Happy weekend readers!

Love,
Rebecca
