As you all will already know, I’m a big fan of a lipstick, but it’s usually a full on fuschia, neon-orange or fire engine red you’ll see me sporting rather than a neutral or nude shade. Truth be told, I’m not much of a fan of nude lips and I have struggled in the past to find a lip colour that’s appropriate for day time. Something that won’t distract from my face, but gives a polished finish to my look.
When I went to Bobbi Brown recently, (you can read more about my make-over here) the make up artist tried a lipstick on me that I really liked however. Unusually it’s called ‘Lilac’ and is a slightly odd shade, lilac isn’t a bad description, but for my skin tone it works. Obviously it won’t work for all of you, but I thought I’d share it.
It’s not only the shade I liked but the consistency. It’s moisturising, stays put and gives good full coverage. I’m teaming it with the rich colour gloss in pink sorbet and the two together are just lovely.
Have you found any beautiful neutral lip colours recently?
Love
Rebecca

You are so right – I’ve worn lipgloss exclusively for the last 10 years but in the last few months have started with some actual lips sticks – I love the orange tones and the extra colour they give. I pick mine up in Boots rather than Bobbi Brown I’m afraid though! X x
That’s because you’re a grown-up Mummy now Sammy
I’ve just started delving into lipsticks after years of lip balms and glosses. I’m loving NARS Pure matte lipsticks at the moment, lasts for a good while and adds colour without being too bold or shiny. Currently wearing Montego Bay which is a nice peachy/pink shade which suits what I like to call my ‘English Rose’ complexion! Catharge is a great hot pink too!
Its interesting that you are all mentioning different shades here within nude, or ‘lip coloured’ and thats what’s important to remember, one persons berry shade against anothers skin may look hideous where another orange toned brown may be perfect. I think what I have been looking for is something that suits my skin and blends in and I’m really pleased with it, but I also go for rosy tones as I have quite darkly pigmented lips when they’re naked(!)
I am addicted to Bobbi Brown lipsticks, my favourite shade is Guava 89, which is a really nice orange/brown. (Looks so much nicer than it sounds!) But I may have a look at experimenting with some other shades soon!
Love a lipstick! My go to every day shade – that i like wearing at night too is YSL Rouge Pur Courture shade Rose Dahlia – its a kind of coral pink on me and quite matt with with a light consistency so easy to wear… Might be a bit bright for some but I love it.
Yesterday i also purchased Loreal Colour riche freshly candy which is a lovely pink shade – very wearable.
Havent tried the bobbi brown but i think a trip to the make up counter is in order!

I’m a bit strange about lipsticks and lip glosses. I think it’s because I have allergies to so many lipsticks (very strange allergy) I have this thing that if I’m going to wear it, it should be obvious, and therefore worthwhile suffering the outcome (itchy, dry, flaky , sometimes blistered lips) so I only wear lipstick if it’s a bright, or not-natural-looking colour.
If I want to go natural or neutral I often wonder what’s the point (both in the upkeep of reapplication and suffering the outcome), so I just wear a balm.
NARS are one of the only brands I can wear without suffering the usual reaction, so it’s lucky they have lots of brilliant colours!
P.S. I love this colour on you, and seeing as i’ll be passing through duty free in a matter of sleeps, I may start trying out nude/neutral lip colours.
More aiport shopping/lusting courtesy of FF (first stop Mulberry)! Mr G is going to be rather unimpressed!
My all time favourite lip colour is a nude one – Belle De Jour by Nars.
Because I’ve such dark hair/eyes and olive skin, I feel like I suit a more subtle lip colour… especially because I love the smokey eye look!
