Saturday Survey and Sneak Peek

Happy weekend readers!

Once again, I’m canvassing opinions from you all and remain ever grateful for the time you spend replying to my questions. As always, if you’d like to feed something back that isn’t covered then please email me on hello@florencefinds.com I love to hear all your thoughts on Florence Finds, good or bad. 🙂

Firstly, Five things…

I mentioned my latest nail polish find from H&M in this weeks What to Wear post, but just had to share the ice-cream sherbet colours with you properly. I can’t find the set online to link to, but you can find all 4 in store for £2.99. We love a bargain here at Florence Finds, so we do 🙂

I’ve been busy accessory buying this week as I treated myself to this yellow and nude enamel bangle from Banana Republic which I’ve been coveting for an unreasonable amount of time.

At the same time I stumbled across something I wasn’t really looking for… that elusive statement necklace. This one is chunky, bright, bold and lady like all at the same time and I snapped it up without hesitation, also from Banana Republic. Soon to be seen in a WTW!

How beautiful is this clear confetti balloon from Bon Bon Balloons on A Diary of Lovely

On a more serious note… you’ve all been a little quiet of late. I don’t know if it’s half term or what, and I’ve certainly noticed that commenters doesn’t = readers, there’s more of you every time I look around, but why so quiet readers? Then I was catching up on A Safe Mooring and the lovely Kirsty just so eloquently explained everything I was thinking. Thanks Kirsty 🙂

Bonus Sneak Peek
This week you get a bonus… a sneak peek at what’s coming next week. And my goodness, this has been a long time coming. Some of you will know instantly what you’re about to see, others will be intrigued. You’re all going to LOVE it!

4. What kind of Travel do you want to see covered? (ie UK short breaks, City breaks, hotel reviews, destination guides, longer trips?)

  1. 1. Cakes! I just love looking at them. Sad.

    2. Not joined in book club as I’m already in a real life one, and cherish the chance to choose my own books inbetween.

    3. Both tutorials and featuring products is great, I love reading about beauty on FF. Would like to see products better highlighted in tutorials because I don’t always get a chance to read every word, but I’d like to see at a glance what’s used…

    4. I’d like to read more on budget travel (I loved the feature on that cheap boutique chain you did a while ago) but that’s just me personally.

    5. See you later!

    Px

  2. 1. Cakes- love cake!! But I would love to see some more veggie recipies.
    2. I don’t really join in, but I do follow it. Most of the books covered so far I’ve read anyway.
    3. I love both. It’s always interesting to see how certain looks are created, but sometimes I just like to see products.
    4. At the moment I need budget ideas. But I love being able to day dream about longer more expensive holidays.
    5. I’m working all weekend! Boooooo!

Ps it’s Mahj’s wedding isn’t it?! Please say yes!! I thought I was never going to get to see it!!! So excited!!
    Xx

  3. 1. Do you have a favourite type of recipe to see on Florence Finds? (meals, baking etc)
I like to see more healthy option meals. Don’t have time for baking.

    2. Have you participated (ie read the suggested book) in Florence’s Book club yet and if not why not – what kind of books would you like to see featured?
No, mostly because I don’t read many books. Which sounds a bit sad, but I read more blogs/online newspapers than read. If I read, I tend to get non-fiction stuff – two most recent books I’ve read were on the history of precious and semi-precious gems and the wives of Henry VIII.

    3. How do you prefer to see beauty covered on Florence Finds? (ie tutorials, new products, recommendations and reviews?)
Recommendations and reviews please! I love these posts.

    4. What kind of Travel do you want to see covered? (ie UK short breaks, City breaks, hotel reviews, destination guides, longer trips?)
Hotel reviews (loved the review of your hotel earlier in Jan), UK short breaks, city breaks. Not looking to do any extensive travel in the next two year (we have a house and garden to sort) so small but luxury places to go/stay are good.

    5. (The hard one) It’s the weekend… what am I likely to find you doing?
All the normal “stuff” that doesn’t fit easily into the working week: gym, tesco and laundry, as well as reading the papers in the mornings, tacking more of the garden, cooking a roast with my husband. There are weekends where we do more exciting stuff – honest! But week to week, that about sums it up!

  4. 1. To be honest, I’m not too bothered about the recipes – not really a foodie, plus I work with a few food clients so l see a lot of this in my job

    2. I’ve read one book in the book club – One Day. To be honest my reading, although I read ALOT, tends to be more along the trashy, chick lit kind… don’t judge me!

    3. Love everything for beauty – new products and reviews especially. I do like to see tutorials but I rarely copy the looks… would be fab to see hair ones though?

    4. Really enjoy reading the travel section – any kind of post. Always looking for destination inspiration and guides so these are fab. Love the reviews too – both for UK and abroad.

    5. It’s the weekend… mostly I’ll be found spending quality time with my husband, house hunting, enjoying being wined and dined, seeing friends and baking (yes, I know I said I wasn’t fussed in point one… but it’s Oreo Brownies and I’ve promised work!)

It is Mahj’s wedding!!!! Can’t wait to finally see this!!!

    xoxo

  5. 1. Healthy and yummy recipes!!!!

    2. Previously have read little women but tend to only have time to read when on my holidays sat in the sunshine…and have to confess that those books tend to be low-brain-requiring trashy-chick-lit!!!

    3. I like your reviews and how-to-do looks….always up for trying new makeup….wore bright pink lipstick with bright pink jeans last night…as inspired by u!!!

    4. Love any holiday destination guides think city breaks in uk and Europe are the most helpful….for inspirational places to visit and insider knowledge of those off the beaten track!!

    5. Yey weekend and not on-call!!! = socialising to the max!!! Baby shower this afternoon in Leeds (cu there)… Then dinner out in Manchester with friends…at Chaoprya…is that how u spell it???….plus probably drinks and dancing après this!!! Then it’s my nieces 9th birthday tomorrow so celebrating with my family and out for early dinner with them in worsley!!! Plus on nights Monday so got a 3day weekend!!!! Woohoo…xxxxxx

    • Ohhhh i love Chaophraya (never quite sure how you spell it!) – just a bit tricky getting up off the cushions when you’ve had lots of food and drink! Have you tried Grinch which is just a tiny bit further down they have yummy cocktails 🙂

  6. 1. ALL food, cocktails, smoothies, just food.
    2. I don’t have time to read away from the office etc. I spend my day job reading and don’t read elsewhere unless i’m on a beach!
    3. Any beauty is good, perhaps a luxe vs budget option?
    4. UK short breaks
    5. I’ve just got in from a 10 mile run, now having a lazy breakfast with the Boy and then we are going to Oxfam to look for a wedding dress for me! Then, a trip to the cinema. Tomorrow is likely to look exactly the same 🙂

  7. 1. I enjoy the cakes/desserts recipies, I’m a terrible cook and whilst I like the look of some of the other meals featured i’m not sure I could pull them off.

    2. I love reading but I didn’t really follow the bookclub, not sure why maybe as i’d read a few titles already? Will make more effort next time!! Promise!

    3. Enjoy all the beauty features lots!!

    4. Again travel section is one of my favourite features, would like to see more short haul ones and maybe even UK holidays?

    5. If I’m not working on the weekend (which 9/10 I am) I catch up on some quality time with my husband and family, we go for romantic walks, meals. I love shopping in little boutiques and looking for things for our home. (ps home makeovers and what to wear posts are my fave features- I may have style copied your recent navy/pink one almost exactly this week!)

  8. Five Answers

    1. Do you have a favourite type of recipe to see on Florence Finds? (meals, baking etc)

Not really. I don’t really cook (I detest cooking in fact) but I do like to look at the yummy pictures and instruct Mr G to cook things for me. I do tend to just skim over these pages though. Sorry!

    2. Have you participated (ie read the suggested book) in Florence’s Book club yet and if not why not – what kind of books would you like to see featured?

I always have my nose in about two or three books at one time or if I’m reading a series i’m usually so engrossed I can take on any more so I tend to read your reviews and then put them on my list. Saying that, I’ve read a few of them anyway so can participate in the discussion.

    3. How do you prefer to see beauty covered on Florence Finds? (ie tutorials, new products, recommendations and reviews?)

I’m a product junkie so I like to see your real life recommendations. I don’t really follow make up tutorials as I like to think I’m pretty good with my make up, as I investigated this as a career when I was very young. You could say make up is a bit of a passion of mine.

    4. What kind of Travel do you want to see covered? (ie UK short breaks, City breaks, hotel reviews, destination guides, longer trips?)

All!!! I love travel, and holidays are the single reason I pull my ass to work everyday! I live to hear travel tips from others! More please!! 🙂

    5. (The hard one) It’s the weekend… what am I likely to find you doing?

Oooh, this is hard. I’m always booked up with numerous things – catch ups with the girls, activities with the boy as we have to make the most of his rare weekends off. Sunday is FOOD day nearly every weekend. Whether it’s hangover brunch, a big Sunday lunch with friends or family and if the mister isn’t around I head to his or my family on a Sunday evening for Sunday dinner, some company, tea, chats and Sunday night telly and come home to bed very late. I can’t bear to be alone on Sunday nights! Don’t ask me why, it’s one of my weird quirks! Any other night I can happily amuse myself at home, but on Sunday evenings I need to see other people! Anyway, the short answer is, at the weekend the one thing I’m sure to be is busy!!

Enjoy your weekend Rebecca, and in fact everyone! xoxo

  9. Morning all

1.I would say meals but to be honest I have loved all of the recipes you’ve posted so far, so more of the same please.

2.*whisper it* I don’t really read books to be honest. Give me a magazine or newspaper any day (or recipe book) and I’m happy. I don’t do Fictional reads 🙁

3.I love new product finds i.e stuff you’ve used and can recommend. Don’t really follow tutorials, too much like hard work. That’s not to say they don’t inspire me in some way but tend to just look at the pictures.

4.Any real reviews (be it destination or city break etc) with lovely pictures to match including what they did, where they stayed, where they dined etc…

5.Well, I work nearly every Saturday until 1pm. Then we (I work with my hubby) usually head home and veg out, have some nice food, clean the house, the usual. We go out probably every other Saturday night with friends and other couples or separately with our girl and boy mates. Sundays we normally go out for Sunday lunch and a nice glass of wine (red please). This Sunday we are doing Jamie’s Italian which has recently opened in our area so looking forward to that! Oh, yes also try and see family, going to see our nephews tomorrow before Jamie. x

  10. Morning!
    1. I’m less of a baker, prefer some quick, healthy meal ideas. The prawn laksa and Tom Yum soup are on my list to try!
    2. I love reading and I enjoy the book club posts, but I don’t always have time to keep up with the current read-a-longs. The Language of Flowers is on my list though!
    3. Beauty posts are great! I probably wouldn’t follow a tutorial exactly, but I like a quick look at the finished result and a review of products.
    4. Travel: nice to have a mix, but realistically, I’m a budget traveller at the moment! Uk breaks and ideas for ways to travel further afield, in style, without breaking the bank would go down well.
    5. This weekend we are procrastinating with the final touches to redecorating our bedroom. I doubt it’ll make a real rooms -it’s pretty basic! We’re off out to watch Wales v England with friends later, followed by a girly lunch for me tomorrow while the boy watches Cardiff City v Liverpool.
    Finally-Mahj’s wedding!!!!!!!That is all.

  11. 1. Cakes and Baking. However my eyes have been opened to a couple of the dishes you have shown and I’ve adapted myself to try!

2.Not yet, I find it hard to keep up with reading, as its currently on the back burner whilst I try and do 1,000 other things. but I will try and join in soon. but I would like to see current books or new releases.

    3. new products, recommendations and reviews

    4. All kind of travel, sometimes what you wouldn’t normally try yourself can be interesting to see and sway you towards trying it!

    5. relaxing from the week behind us, indulging in nice food and copious wine!! 😀

  12. I’m fairly new to this blog so…

    1. Everything! I think good photography makes a food post, and from what I’ve seen so far, yours is great, so even if I’m not convinced by a recipe, I sill want it.

    2. No idea about this but I like the sound of it.

    3. I think a mix of all is good.

    4. Any, but it’s not a priority, as it just makes me sad I’m not going on holiday this year! Woe is me…

    5. All sorts – sleeping, seeing friends (sometimes going to London to do so), blogging, flea markets, eating, more sleeping, cinema, exploring my city (Bristol).

  13. 1. Do you have a favourite type of recipe to see on Florence Finds?
Mid-week meals are always good. It’s so difficult to find inspiration sometimes!

    2. Have you participated (ie read the suggested book) in Florence’s Book club yet and if not why not – what kind of books would you like to see featured?
    I haven’t I’m afraid :o( It’s a time thing, really… All the books have sounded great!

    3. How do you prefer to see beauty covered on Florence Finds?
Definitely tried and tested reviews – I bought the blow-dry spray after you recommended it!

    4. What kind of Travel do you want to see covered?
I’ve loved the short UK trip info, because I don’t tend to read a review of a bigger trip and think ‘yes, lets go!’ but with a UK one, I might.

    5. (The hard one) It’s the weekend… what am I likely to find you doing?
One of two things: 1 – Pancakes and coffee for breakfast on Saturday, dinner with friends, doing things in the house and a nice walk. Or, 2 – a weekend away/seeing family.

So genuinely excited to see Mahj’s wedding picture!! xx

  14. Happy Saturday Campers!

    1. I don’t ever have the time to bake, but I do love looking at cakes. I’d like to see more quick and healthy dinners, and also food products that you’ve found and loved: a new oil/herb. Whatever’s tickling your fancy that week.

    2. I am not participating in the book club, I try to read as much as possible but this tends to be on holiday. I’m a big fan of quite meaty books and tend to stay clear of the girlier fluff.

    3. Massive beauty fan. Really interested in tried/tested and can’t-live-without products. Be nice to see what your top shelf looks like and a walk through of your faves like in http://www.intothegloss.com

    4. Chic travel ideas on a budget are always welcome. Ideas for weekends away. What to pack etc

    5. Shopping for a dress for tonight. Tea and cake with the girls. Posh dinner for two with my partner. Tomorrow will be bed based: tea, Guardian, toast, cuddles

  15. 1. Do you have a favourite type of recipe to see on Florence Finds? (meals, baking etc) – baking baking baking. But also yummy meals. Hearty food. Girly salads. Brunch recipes. Cocktails… bits of everything really, always nice to see a variety.

    2. Have you participated (ie read the suggested book) in Florence’s Book club yet and if not why not – what kind of books would you like to see featured? – not yet. Sadly I have very little time for reading 🙁

    3. How do you prefer to see beauty covered on Florence Finds? (ie tutorials, new products, recommendations and reviews?) – LOVE tutorials. I’m not a big make-up person so it’s good to see how these fancy shmancy products are actually used.

    4. What kind of Travel do you want to see covered? (ie UK short breaks, City breaks, hotel reviews, destination guides, longer trips?) – personally I’m a fan of the UK short breaks, but all are good.

    5. (The hard one) It’s the weekend… what am I likely to find you doing? – revising…

  16. 1. All food is good, but particularly interested in healthy, easy to make meals. Yum!

    2. I haven’t been joining in book club. I love reading and it’s great to hear other people’s recommendations, but I’m just not that interested in discussing fiction, although I have already read most of the books so far!

    3. I like to read everyone’s reviews and recommendations for products, especially the essentials, i.e. mascara, foundation etc. I love to see the more fun stuff in action!

    4. I’m not a huge traveller, but again really appreciate personal reccomendations and love travel photos.

    5. Well, it’s quite variable, but at the moment my husband and I both work on Saturdays, although at different times of the day, so I usually try and get some tidying done and a few other chores and then chill out. Sunday is the day for a lie in and a walk or gym then more work I’m afraid, followed by a night in or out depending on the mood! It’s not always so dull, honest!

That looks like one exciting picture of Mahj!

Also, I’m sorry to say, I’m one of those blog lurkers. Not sure why, but I promise to make more of an effort and I do love reading Florence Finds!

    Happy weekend one and all!
    Xx

  17. 1. Not really, think the ones that you’ve featured that I’ve gone on to make myself have been the meals. But I love all food (reading cooking and eating!!), so love the variety of dishes on here.
    2. Not yet. I’ve read a couple of the featured ones already and love to read other people’s point of view after I’ve finished a book, but I like to choose what to read depending on my mood, rather than what’s in the book club in a given month. Has given me a few more ideas for some Kindle downloads, so will be sure to check back in once I’ve read them.
    3. I like the recommendations and review. You and your readers give great product tips, and I’m far more likely to try something following a personal recommendation
    4. Can I say all of the above?!? Again I like real life reviews and pictures, and insider knowledge of where to go, sleep, eat, see etc. We probably won’t have a big holiday this year, as we’re getting married next year so I like the UK based ideas and budget options. But also on the hunt for Honeymoon ideas so the far flung and the luxurious are also of iinterest.
    5. Long walks, pub lunches, catching up with friends, shopping, cooking Sunday roast. It’s always a balance between relaxing, long lie ins and doing nothing and making the most of what little time off we have! Today my sister is coming round for a spot of wedding planning and Six Nations watching and then we’re meeting up with friends for dinner.

  18. First and foremost – Mahj’s wedding!!!! Beyond excited! This better be Monday morning’s post because now I know it’s coming I CANNOT. WAIT.

    1. I like all the recipe posts, don’t care what type they are. I am less likely to bake though, due to time, but I did make the cinnamon bread. Maybe more easy baking? 🙂

    2. I have read quite a few of the book club books but have yet to comment. Might be more likely to if the reviews were posted in the morning.

    3. Love the beauty posts and want all the types of post listed! Wouldn’t change a thing about them.

    4. I particularly like the stuff about UK short breaks and the destination guides.

    5. Every other weekend my husband’s daughter stays with us, so then it’s family days out. On the weekends we’re by ourselves, we go out for dinner, catch up on household chores and go for walks together. Sundays are spent cooking, eating, and chilling out with Sky+! Not exciting but we like it. 🙂

  19. I love to bake-and have tried quite a few of the sweet treats on here already so more of those would be good. I’m not do big on cooking (I leave that up to my other half!) but some more simple suppers/mid week dishes would be good.

I’m afraid I have to admit that I’m not a big book worm-I love to read but mostly glossy mags or chick lit-nothing too intense! I haven’t taken part in the book club and to be honest am so busy at the moment that I probably wouldn’t have time to take part in it properly.

Love, love, love the beauty posts! These are my favourites along with the fashion and travel posts. Any product recommendations are good-a luxe v less feature would be good. Im really nosy and would love to see what’s in your make-up bag and if your tastes in make-up change depending on the season etc. The tutorials are good but I don’t really follow them-just look at the pics. Would be good to see some beauty posts focusing on products that help the skin-moisturiser etc. It’s always good to get other people’s recommendations. I am also a bit obsessed with nails so amy posts on Nail polish/colours/trends etc would be good.

Love the travel features-would love to see more UK travel features-ideas for weekends away/boutique hotels/luxury B&Bs etc. Also some UK amd Europe city guides would be good-where to stay/eat/shop/visit etc and maybe what to pack clothes wise-that would be interesting to see.

My weekends are usually spent visiting family and friends as we live miles away from them all! This weekend I’m on call with work so will be at home doing all those boring jobs you never want to-cleaning/washing/tidying etc. Might do some baking tomorrow whilst my other half watches the footie!

    Happy weekend everyone xx

  20. 1. I always have a mooch at all the receipe’s but the ones I really like are for lazy Sundays and take about 7 hours to make!

    2. I havent participated yet as I’ve normally read the books already and when its time to discuss them, I cant get online as my work pc blocks FF (boo!) and I forget when I get home (boo again!)

    3. I’ll admit, I’m a bit rubbash with make up. I tend to use the same products for months and not really deviate. Saying that though, I love the tutorials and seeing how a look comes together. And I also like it when there are nail polish recs like above, because thats beauty that I can totally do!

    4. I’d like to see UK City Breaks covered and also European short breaks and as someone said above the bargin vs. luxe option

    5. Today I’ve been to the gym, tidied up my front garden and now I’m mooching. Tonight is date night with the husb (we are trying a Lebanese restaurant – I am WELL excited!). Tmrw will be house stuff and getting all the bits done I dont manage to get done in the week.

    Happy Weekend y’all!

    xoxo

  21. Eeeep, Mahj’s wedding!! You sneaky girl, can’t believe you’ve commented but not even given us a hint!!

    Annnnnnnyway…..

    1. No not really. I always have a look but haven’t yet made any of the featured recipes but do plan to make the Tom Yum soup you featured a while ago, sometime soon….

    2. Yeah I have- especially if it’s a book I’ve wanted to read anyway but not got round to- this is what inspired me to read The Help and One Day. Although am afraid my comments are often late if I haven’t finished it in time…

    3. I’m just like Mahj above, v unadventurous when it comes to makeup and stick to products I know I can do right. Do like the tutorials and recommendations but probably wouldn’t actually do them myself (sorry)

    4. I like a mixture of stuff. Not too bothered about UK breaks (usually have plans for weekends and if I have longer I’d want to go abroad) but love seeing a bit of all sorts of trips/reviews for inspiration!!

    5. I’ve just moved to London so am usually sorting out my flat, meeting friends for catch ups over coffee/lunch/dinner, going to the gym and sleeping!! Or away from London visiting friends and family.

Sorry you’ve felt we’ve all gone a bit quiet Rebecca -like everyone else I’m sure I AM reading but don’t tend to comment unless I really feel I have something worth saying (which on fashion and beauty posts I usually don’t!!!)

  22. 1. Do you have a favourite type of recipe to see on Florence Finds? (meals, baking etc)

I love all the recipe posts and the scotch egg recipe has converted me to buying One eggs now!

    2. Have you participated (ie read the suggested book) in Florence’s Book club yet and if not why not – what kind of books would you like to see featured?
I have read One Day and your review of The Help prompted me to pick it up off the bookshelf and read it. However, I just don’t feel like i have anything worthwhile to say/comment on ( i feel a bit intimidated..worried i am not going to be intellectual enough)

    3. How do you prefer to see beauty covered on Florence Finds? (ie tutorials, new products, recommendations and reviews?)

I love all things beauty, although not a massive fan on the tutorials. I prefer the recommendations, new products and reviews.

    4. What kind of Travel do you want to see covered? (ie UK short breaks, City breaks, hotel reviews, destination guides, longer trips?)

The short break and city breaks are what pique my interest the most, as i am always looking for somewhere amazing to saty for the weekend

    5. (The hard one) It’s the weekend… what am I likely to find you doing?

Been shopping today, i have 4 weddings this year so i am looking early for outfits, and i am really struggling!
Off out to dinner tonight…a new post that i think would be great is recommendations of great restaurants across the UK, when we go away I always struggle to find restaurants to eat in!

Mahj wedding!!! I am SO excited, i thought we would never get to see this!
    Whoop Whoop!

  23. 1.   Am probably more likely to try out meals as always looking for inspiration for dinner (otherwise we might end up with pasta based meals far far too often)

    2. Have never been in a book club and tend to be reading something else at the time. Doesn’t mean I won’t at some stage. Seem to be reading more now I have a kindle! Would probably look through the books previously covered when looking for recommendations

    3. Probably recommendations

    4. Interested in all travel but as I have been lucky enough to do quite a bit of backpacking I end up being most interested in places I have been to myself (I enjoyed the SE Asia one for example) I know that defeats the purpose so will also say not too expensive short breaks.

    5.  Brunch, walking around London or the countryside, pubs, reading papers, complaining about high London property prices (!!), bit of shopping, seeing friends

  24. Hello! I like that you do these surveys and that you listen to what people want 🙂
    Ok then…

    1. Do you have a favourite type of recipe to see on Florence Finds?
I love baking so i love all of the cake/biscuit features you’ve done – i’m actually making the jaffa cakes you featured a few weeks ago tomorrow for a friends birthday. I would love to see some healthy dinner recipes, and some quick supper fixes too – sometime when i’ve been working late i get stuck for inspiration.

    2. Have you participated (ie read the suggested book) in Florence’s Book club yet and if not why not – what kind of books would you like to see featured?
I have once (i think!) i have actually read most of the books you’ve featured and i think the reason i haven’t commented is because i don’t check the blog everyday and sometimes it feels like i’m a bit late to the party! I’m reading the Great Gatsby and the Paris Wife at the moment but i’m always asking for book recommendations so i think the book club is a fab idea.

    3. How do you prefer to see beauty covered on Florence Finds? (ie tutorials, new products, recommendations and reviews?)
I’m a beauty junkie and i prefer new product news, recommendations and reviews (i bought the garnier B&B creme after seeing the review here)

4.What kind of Travel do you want to see covered? (ie UK short breaks, City breaks, hotel reviews, destination guides, longer trips?)
I love travelling and would like to read destination guides – as much as you can read trip advisor, if you’re going somewhere a bit different and you don’t know anyone who has been, it would be good to read what like-minded people thought/did. City breaks and UK boutique hotels would be good too.

    5. (The hard one) It’s the weekend… what am I likely to find you doing?
Friday night i have date night with my husband, Saturday i tend to go to the gym, shopping and catch up with my family and Sunday i have my only lie in of the week, read the papers and have breakfast in bed and if i haven’t seen them during the week i try to meet up with my girlfriends for a late lunch.

  25. Promise to answer th question tomorrow, but please for the love of all that is good in blogland, let it be Mahjs & marts wedding!!
I hoped it would appear here when I saw Mahjs beautiful face.
    Yaye Yaye Yaye.

  26. 1. I don’t really read the posts on food. (my favs are homes/interiors and fashion posts) I hate cooking so it’s the Mr that does all the cooking in our house.
    2. What I read depends on my mood. Lots of the bestselling books I feel really hard to read and loose interest within a few pages so I never finish them – this happened with both The Help and One day.
    3. I like these posts but tend to stick with my tried and tested products. I would like to see personal recomendations and maybe products for problem skin. Hair is a disaster zone for me so hair tutorials would be good.
4.Really enjoy these posts too. I would be interested in more budget friendly options and ideas of places to go and things to see. (when we go abroad we go for very budget hotels as we spend very little time in the room) Also holiday wardrobes, how to pack to avoid excess baggage charges would be great!!
    5. Not doing much this weekend, we have no spare cash at the moment. My dad will be coming round tomorrow and we will likely go out for a very long walk and then home for a Sunday roast cooked by the hubby.

  27. Mahj’s wedding!!!! Too. Damn. Excited. And that photo is stunning. Just stunning.

    1) I love all recipes to be honest, I’m always up for giving them a try!

    2) I’ve read all the books so far, and have the next on pre-order when the paperback comes out (err…sorry bank balance!)

    3) I can hold my hands up and say I am RUBBISH with make-up. I’m 26 and I can’t apply eyeliner. No joke. I just cannot work it out. Personally I need back-to-basics tutorials for dummies, but I appreciate the majority of your readers are not quite as hopelessly inept and so you probably should ignore me! Generally I love reading the beauty posts, despite being utterly incapable of reproducing them.

    4) I like the short UK or Europe breaks, but again always love reading people’s choices and experiences.

    5) I work teaching swimming on Satirday mornings, then we often go away to visit friends, or family. Or have them to stay. Sunday evenings are for ironing (G, not me, I usually do other householdy Just now you’d also find me doing weddingy prep type stuff (I.e.,

  29. I’m online reading this very late on the day… I can’t sleep.

After today, I can only answer question 5. (The hard one) It’s the weekend… what am I likely to find you doing?

I was on my way to a girls weekend when we got a phone call to say one of our good friends dad had passed away- so we are now back at home.

A very sombre comment – but wishing everyone a happy weekend, wherever they may be.

  30. 1. Love all the recipes, trying hard to improve my cake making at the moment!
    2. Enjoyed The Help, can’t wait to see the film now. One Day was frustrating but compulsive reading, sometimes wished I could have shaken both main characters. Enjoy new book suggestions and you have now inspired me to read Little Women again!
    3. I have long been totally a slave to beauty products, just adore a new lipstick, face cream, everything! I’ m hooked so can’t wait for the beauty and fashion posts.
    4. Travel my other big passion, like the weekend breaks and long haul travel. I’m always looking for the next new destination.
    5. Weekend is for entertaining family and friends, or being invited out to friends houses for dinner. Saturday shopping, hectic but great buzz!
Lazy Sundays, sometimes a walk or just coffee out.

  31. So excited about seeing Mahj’s wedding. Love the photo. Hope that its early on in the week x

    1) I really like both the baking and the meal ideas – the red thai curry is now a firm favourite and have also made the jaffa cakes (let’s not speak about the brooklyn black out cake….more than one attempt, still a disaster!!!)

    2) Have already read the books featured and then miss the discussions as its v difficult to leave a comment when I’m at work. Always after reading suggestions a I’m a book worm so I do like the book club idea.

    3) Love the tried and tested – the blow dry spray is fab, whether I’m doing my hair curly or straight. Recommendations from actual people rather than marketing hype is great.

    4) All of those mentioned – but with luxe vs budget options

    5) Catching up – with friends, family, housework, spending proper time with my husband, and a recent regular one – trying to suss out what I want from a career, as my current one isn’t it, and its a major cause of the Sunday night blues.

    xxxxxxx

  32. 1. I love the recipes & mean to cook some of them but then forget. I think that’s because I cook more from cookbooks than the Internet. By reading the comments I realise I forgot all about the Jaffa cakes, which at the time I really wanted to bake.
    2. Thank you Rebecca for asking me to be involved in FF Book Club. I love it. As a member of a meeting in person book club & joining in with other online book blogs I I know that I can’t read everything & the books I choose so I pick & choose & don’t feel guilty.
    3. What I love about blogs is the comments to make up & beauty posts backing up what the writer has said. I like all, maybe one for the future but I like Sali Hughes in The Guardian who has videos for how to apply particular make up & I find that good.
    4. I like reading about travel. I like the earlier suggestion about regional reccomendations for restaurants by readers in that area.
    5. The weekend. We mainly spend it together seeing friends & family, mooching around London or our home. Warmth often has football on a Saturday so that’s girlfriend meet, blog catch up or shopping time.

Thinking about commenting & FF. Maybe we should also try to comment on a post when we have used a beauty product, baked a recipe, tried an outfit so that it becomes an even better resource for us?
Keep up the great work Rebecca.

    • Forgot to say.
      1. Can’t wait for Mahj & husband in all their wedding joy.
      2. I tried to find the H&M nail varnish & couldn’t.
      3. Re DIY manicure. I am now getting much better at it. The key your trick of starting the horizontal stroke higher & wriggling it down. Thank you.

  33. 1. Do you have a favourite type of recipe to see on Florence Finds? (meals, baking etc)

Things I can cook midweek after work in less than 30 minutes and/or chocolate/baking recipes.

    2. Have you participated (ie read the suggested book) in Florence’s Book club yet and if not why not – what kind of books would you like to see featured?

No, I don’t really have time to read very much at the minute which is upsetting. I read all day at work so when I get home I want to “lie like vegetables” “like brocolli” rather than have to think. Its pathetic isn’t it?

    3. How do you prefer to see beauty covered on Florence Finds? (ie tutorials, new products, recommendations and reviews?)

Reviews. It would be good to see reviews from other people with different colourings/styles.

    4. What kind of Travel do you want to see covered? (ie UK short breaks, City breaks, hotel reviews, destination guides, longer trips?)

Luxury UK hotels and European/short haul destinations and places to visit when we’re there (not just pictures of the room). Your 30th report was fab (I always like to know about the food.

    5. (The hard one) It’s the weekend… what am I likely to find you doing

I went to the NWS and guess who I had the pleasure of seeing in real life? My updates were featured live on anyotherwedding’s comments section (I needed to escape – nymphs anyone?). There was a lot of cr@p there, lots of glitter. The ladies at Ellie Sanderson were fab – the show should have given them a bigger spot (for free) as they were the main fashion draw – they were doing one in one out for most of yesterday.

  34. 1) I’ve made a couple of the recipes and they have all been yum. Think what I would like to see most of is quick relatively healthy meals for after work, but love a bit of baking as well.

    2) Not participated in book club yet but am intrigued by the next choice and think I will buy it. Not sure I’ll get time to read it though – must make an effort, I’ve got loads of books I want to read, but somehow never get round to it.

    3) I like the product reviews best, am a bit of a wimp with makeup, wouldn’t be brave enough to try a whole look

    4) Happy to read about all sorts of travel, definitely love the escapism. Am most likely to use advice on UK short breaks though

    5) Most weekends exercise, housework and spending time with my husband. Have had a friend to stay this weekend which has involved rather too much alcohol so now recovering on the sofa.

  35. Sorry Rebecca (said in a small child-voice). As Kirsty said, it is all too easy to think that what I (we) have to say isn’t interesting/important/relevant and therefore not worthy of gracing the pages of your fab blog. I suppose we do need to be reminded sometimes of our part in helping you continue to achieve success in your venture.

Scouts honour to make more of an effort to contribute in order to grow the FF dialogue.

    Mes cinq reponses:

    1. Do you have a favourite type of recipe to see on Florence Finds? (meals, baking etc)

Meals – I’m a dreadful baker and really appreciate inspiration as to what to cook for dinner. I do so love breaking out of the ‘supper rut’.
    2. Have you participated (ie read the suggested book) in Florence’s Book club yet and if not why not – what kind of books would you like to see featured?
Yes. I read The Help before it was suggested in Florence’s book club and then I read Sacred Hearts and I look forward to contributing my opinion to the discussion on that one. I think there have been some good books featured, ones likely to be enjoyed by FF readers but some more non-fiction (cookery, design, gardening??) books would add to the selection.
    3. How do you prefer to see beauty covered on Florence Finds? (ie tutorials, new products, recommendations and reviews?)
    All of the above.
    4. What kind of Travel do you want to see covered? (ie UK short breaks, City breaks, hotel reviews, destination guides, longer trips?)
All of the above – different people have very different holiday needs and to represent them all (or as many as possible) is a great way to appeal to everyone.
    5. (The hard one) It’s the weekend… what am I likely to find you doing?
Just returned home to an empty house after a weekend parent-visiting. Mr R in Switzerland skiing. Tea and biscuits for poor lonely me, followed by a bath and some rubbish telly and lots of zzzzs before the 5.45 alarm tomorrow morning.

  36. Oh my days! I am so excited that Mahj’s wedding is going to be on here! I had wondered what had happened when I didn’t see it on RMW, and I am so ridiculously excited to see it in all it’s multicoloured glory. If that photo is anything to go by, it will be immense! x

  37. 1. Do you have a favourite type of recipe to see on Florence Finds? (meals, baking etc)

I think quick or easy meals would be appreciated for weekday dinners after work, or baking recipes that I could try at the weekend.

    2. Have you participated (ie read the suggested book) in Florence’s Book club yet and if not why not – what kind of books would you like to see featured?

not yet – Im not sure why though – sorry! I think its hard sometimes to discuss things like books in an online conversation.

    3. How do you prefer to see beauty covered on Florence Finds? (ie tutorials, new products, recommendations and reviews?)

I prefer recommendations, as I am a complete novice with beauty products and worry about spending money on things that turn out to be useless so any advice is appreciated!

    4. What kind of Travel do you want to see covered? (ie UK short breaks, City breaks, hotel reviews, destination guides, longer trips?)

destination guides or city/UK short breaks

    5. (The hard one) It’s the weekend… what am I likely to find you doing?

usually having coffee (and cake) with my husband and catching up on doing things that there is never enough time in the week to do!

  38. 1. Do you have a favourite type of recipe to see on Florence Finds? (meals, baking etc)

I must admit I’m not a keen cook, hubby does 99% of it but I do love to bake, so definitely would love to see more baking recipes so I can save them on Evernote just need to start putting the recipes into practice.

    2. Have you participated (ie read the suggested book) in Florence’s Book club yet and if not why not – what kind of books would you like to see featured?

No, I used to be a huge reader but mainly crime novels with a few comedy ones thrown in (Janet Evanovich / Ben Elton), but that’s tapered off last few years (took me nearly a year to read the last Twilight book!!), so tend to read only on holiday where I blitz them, now I have a baby I barely have time to pick up a book but I do need to read more as used to enjoy it.

    3. How do you prefer to see beauty covered on Florence Finds? (ie tutorials, new products, recommendations and reviews?)

Like all of them but probably not good at following through with the tutorials, I always find it hard to follow and prefer to have someone show me in the flesh as it were.

    4. What kind of Travel do you want to see covered? (ie UK short breaks, City breaks, hotel reviews, destination guides, longer trips?)

All of the above, I don’t know how many of your readers have children but the odd review of something you can do / go to and incorporate baby would be great, I still love my luxe / stylish hotels so would like to be able to enjoy them alongside bringing Baby K if possible and not feel out of place. Having said that I’m booking The Drawing Room from your recommendation for a belated anniversary weekend when MIL can babysit, can’t wait 🙂

    5. (The hard one) It’s the weekend… what am I likely to find you doing?

Most weekends are spent catching up with friends either here in Manchester or visiting, hubby and I like to go away and haven’t let having a baby stop us. If we’re having a quiet one, it’s doing things like going for a nice meal and spending quality family time together. This weekend has been a bit manic with quite a bit of drinking with friends with a visit from my aunt from London.

Hope everyone had a fab weekend xx

PS thanks for the previous Flipboard recommendation Rebecca, I LOVE IT!!! It’s great to see everything in one place instead of having to bookmark everything and go via Safari, genius!
PPS I soooooo hope this is Mahj’s wedding, have been dying to see it and wondered what happened!! Yay!
PPPS Loving the candy coloured nails and FINALLY I HEART balloons and love the one above, I can’t wait for Baby K to turn 1 this year (well sort of as she’s growing up so quickly already it’s quite frightening) so I can have LOTS AND LOTS of balloons!! I hope they don’t freak her out!!

  39. Thanks for the link Rebecca! It’s been so interesting to hear how many people totally identified with that post. Comments really are the lifeblood of a blog. And on that note, I suppose I should practise what I preach, so:

    1. Do you have a favourite type of recipe to see on Florence Finds? (meals, baking etc)

Erm, easy ones! Quick, simple suppers. And cake. Always cake.

    2. Have you participated (ie read the suggested book) in Florence’s Book club yet and if not why not – what kind of books would you like to see featured?

I must confess I haven’t yet, because I’m in another blogging book club and there’s only so many books a girl can read. So I suppose short stories or poetry books might be a good shout, since they’re easier to dip in and out of and a bit outside of most people’s usual comfort zones, which I think is a big part of what a book club is about.

    3. How do you prefer to see beauty covered on Florence Finds? (ie tutorials, new products, recommendations and reviews?)

Definitely tutorials. I’m quite strict about buying new products, so I’m always looking for inspiration, ideas and new ways to use the products I already own.

    4. What kind of Travel do you want to see covered? (ie UK short breaks, City breaks, hotel reviews, destination guides, longer trips?)

Selfishly, I’d love to read more about UK destinations, hotels and short breaks because I don’t think we’re going to go abroad again this year, so I’m looking for some staycation inspiration. I was so impressed with Penny’s tour guiding skills in Leeds this weekend, so maybe insider city guides to UK cities from local readers would be good? If you need a volunteer from Edinburgh…

    5. (The hard one) It’s the weekend… what am I likely to find you doing?

    I couldn’t possibly say. Ahem.

  40. 1. I’m quite a keen cook and like quick healthy recipes for week days and then baking/more indulgent recipes for weekends – so a mixture for me!

    2. I’m not a huge reader (love magazines and blogs though) but I did read The Help – along with the book club and I had read One day previously. Even though I’m not a huge reader I love the book club and is reminds me that I actually really enjoy reading and inspires me to try new books.

    3. Love trying new products (both skincare and makeup) so recommendations and reviews for me too!

    4. Really enjoy the travel reviews but especially like to see UK hotel reviews and European cities.

    5. Eating out, catching up on jobs around the house, decorating, (visiting Homebase and B&Q seems to be a theme at the moment!) cooking and visiting family (nephews and nieces) The weekends are H2B and family time as I tend to see friends in the week mostly…

    Love the Banana republic jewellery!!

    Rachie xo

  41. Bit late to this one, but here goes…

    1. Do you have a favourite type of recipe to see on Florence Finds? (meals, baking etc)

I’ve loved almost all the recipes you’ve done so far! Baking ones are good as I’m always looking for new inspiration there. But (as someone has already said) would be good to have quick meals on there, the kind of thing you can throw together after work that’s healthy and tasty.

    2. Have you participated (ie read the suggested book) in Florence’s Book club yet and if not why not – what kind of books would you like to see featured?

I think I’ve already read the books that have been featured in the Book Club! I have a pretty extensive reading list at any one time and am usually working my way though that anyway. I do keep an eye out for if there’s any books featured I haven’t read. Hoping to participate in the future.

    3. How do you prefer to see beauty covered on Florence Finds? (ie tutorials, new products, recommendations and reviews?)

Tutorials are great as I’m rubbish with make-up! Tend to only wear for nights out and special occasions and therefore don’t have much practice and stick to what I know. But I still like to see what’s around and recommendations are good too.

    4. What kind of Travel do you want to see covered? (ie UK short breaks, City breaks, hotel reviews, destination guides, longer trips?)

It’d be good to see more city breaks that are UK and Europe based, as that’s more the kind of holidays we tend to do. Or longer UK based holidays (holiday cottages etc) would be great too. I do like reading about the more exotic places though – esp as it reminds me of my backpacking days!

    5. (The hard one) It’s the weekend… what am I likely to find you doing?

Well this weekend I was away visiting a friend in Belfast (great city!) but if we’re not away or don’t have people round then it’s usually quite chilled – lie-in’s, papers, walks etc. Maybe a night/dinner out and I try to cook to make up for not doing any cooking in the week. And the occasional day-out 🙂

  42. 1. I love all your recipe posts, especially those with lots of pictures to salivate over. Personally my favourites would be quick meals and baking. I’ve already tried the chicken tagine recipe (which was lovely and is now on my mid week repertoire with added chick peas). And I loooovee baking, although I try not to bake too often though or I’d be the size of a house!

    2. I’ve already read a few of the books you’ve featured in Book Club, but I’ve never really felt the need to participate. It’s always good to have new suggestions that I can add to my book pile, but I’m not very good at reading things by a specific date. It kind of takes the fun out of reading, when you have to rush to get a book finished… abit too like school/Uni.

    3. I’m also a bit of a beauty junkie and love the new products, reviews and recommendations. To be honest, I generally skim over the tutorials as a lot of the looks arent really my style. It’s always nice to have a good mix of budget versus luxury products too.

    4. Other than ski-ing I don’t think we’re going to make it away on a foreign holiday this year so some UK breaks would be excellent. It would also be good to see a few more budget options, as much as I love looking at pictures of expensive hotels, it can get a bit depressing when you know you can’t afford them. You seem to have a varied audience from around the UK, so maybe some reader posts of what to do in each other’s cities?

    5. This weekend has been pretty dull, so nothing terribly exciting to report. Saturday was park run, followed by painting our kitchen/dining room and a visit to meet friends new puppy. Sunday was more painting, rugby and then visiting other friends… Next weekend will be more fun though as we’re off ski-ing!!!

  43. Omigod, sooooo excited to see Mahj’s wedding!!!

    1. Do you have a favourite type of recipe to see on Florence Finds? (meals, baking etc)

I love them all – like to have a varied selection as I like all types of cooking/baking at home so it’s nice to have different kinds of inspiration. I too have made the tagine but with lamb and it was YUM!

    2. Have you participated (ie read the suggested book) in Florence’s Book club yet and if not why not – what kind of books would you like to see featured?

I had already read The Help but still planning on reading One Day which is on my kindle. They are the only 2 so far but I like to receive book recommendations and will probably get round to more of them when my current list goes down (it’s pretty massive!)

    3. How do you prefer to see beauty covered on Florence Finds? (ie tutorials, new products, recommendations and reviews?)

I’m not so into the beauty posts but do like looking at the real tutorial pictures. I generally stick to different eyeshadows, eyeliner and mascara and don’t wear any other make-up. I do love the nail varnish recommendations though and bought the miracle drops after your tutorial. I’m also much better at remembering the topcoat after reading that and it does make a difference! Thanks!

    4. What kind of Travel do you want to see covered? (ie UK short breaks, City breaks, hotel reviews, destination guides, longer trips?)

All of them, I like a varied pile of inspiration much like with the recipes as I like all kinds but I particularly love travel photography of the places rather than just the hotels as that’s something I’m interested in anyway, be it exotic landscapes or amazing buildings in cities.

    5. (The hard one) It’s the weekend… what am I likely to find you doing?

Well, I was mostly having fun with 8 wonderful girlies in Leeds hence this late reply! (I also read Kirsty’s amazing post and am trying to be good!) 🙂
