I am somewhat of a creature of habit when it comes to skin care. I love my Eve Lom cleanser, don’t vary my moisturiser or sunscreen choices much, and even have my favourites with haircare and cosmetics, but today I have a new ‘find’ to share with you all.
One thing I have always been a fan of is exfoliators. I love the feeling of smoothness you get after using them and the idea of sloughing away all those dead cells. Now that I use Eve Lom I actually don’t use exfoliators all that often as the muslin cloth exfoliates for me daily. However when I needed a boost I used to occasionally use Dermalogica’s daily microfoliant. I’ve had that for years though so when I spotted this No.7 micro-dermabrasion exfoliator, I thought I would give it a go. Reporting to be so effective you should wear extra sunscreen, I was hoping for big things.
I prefer my exfoliators to feel like they are doing something and this one came out as a granulated paste, with an almost sand like texture when rubbed in. I was really pleased with the results too. Super smooth skin, as promised, and although I expect some level of tightness in the skin after exfoliating, it wasn’t overly uncomfortable.
I’m so happy with it, I binned the Dermalogica. My skin has cleared up massively in recent weeks, (more on that later,) so I was really keen to make the most of it. Add to that the fact that I’ve been thinking about stepping up my skin-care in view of my recent big-three-oh birthday and I think this product is worth a try if you want to do the same. At £11 I didn’t think it was too expensive either, just over a third of the price of the Demalogica.
Have you tried the No.7 Total Renewal Micro-dermabrasion exfoliator? Or have you got a favourite you can recommend here?
Love,
Rebecca

Indeed I have and I love it. I snaffled a sample of it from my mum years and years ago and have used it ever since. I’ve swayed a few times (Sanctuary glycolic peel thing and Dermalogica to name a few) but nothing ever comes close to the No7 one. Defo a bathroom cabinet staple for me! super cheap too, and there’s always those Boots £5 off vouchers knocking about – which makes it UBERcheap! 🙂
Think I’ll definitely be giving this one a go, sounds great and I’d been thinking of looking into dermabrasion anyway.
My favourite skin find recently is Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair – I convinced the girl to give me a sample when I bought a new concealer recently and when it runs out (which it isn’t even close to yet) I’ll definitely be investing, it really seems to brighten and smooth.
Rebecca, I need to know more about the skin clearing up story.
It is miraculous. I’ve been using it for years & love it.
I’m just coming to the bottom of my Dermalogica so this is really well timed. I use my Dermalogica every morning in the shower – can you use this one as often too?
Good point Jessie. It’s actually so strong they recommend you only use it twice a week, or weekly if you have sensitive skin. And you have to use a sunscreen after it to protect your newly exposed skin!!

Thanks Rebecca. The idea of super sloughed skin once a week does sound lovely. Maybe I’ll give it a bash and see if it means I have to exfoliate less in general. It would be nice to save the pennies/soend them on something else!
The other product I saw and was interested in recently was the No 7 repair and protect serum for the younger age bracket. Maybe it was just some nifty marketing but it looked like they were tageting several different ‘anti aging’ brackets now. I wonder whether any one has any opinions on these…?
Sorry I meant Protect & Perfect.
Also I see that Boots are doing 3 for 2 on No.7 at the moment.
tHEY ARE INDEED! i WAS THINKING ABOUT TRYING THE PROTECT AND PERFECT RANGE ACTUALLY – WE JUST BOUGHT MY MUM ONE THAT WAS APPROPRIATE TO HER AGE AND I WAS INTERESTED TO SEE THEM DIVERSIFYING.
Bl*&dy caps lock!
Great post Rebecca.
I might have to give it a try next when my current exfoliator (Eau Thermale Avène Gentle Purifying Scrub) runs out!
The No.7 gets my vote too, I’ve been using it for a while. I mix with Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish to make it creamier and more cushioning – even less sensitivity/tightness afterwards, if any at all.
Sounds like it does the job! Will definitely give it a go the next time there’s a No7 £5 off voucher doing the rounds. In fact, that would be a good subject for a future post – what are the recommended products for making use of the £5 off vouchers. I’d definitely recommend the No 7 nude lip pencil.
Good idea Pip!
I love exfoliators!! The feeling after cant be beaten, I exfoliate once a week as I use a muslin cloth to take wash my face but I have sworn by the (cheap and cheerful albeit) st Ives apricot scrub for years now!! Might get this as a post baby treat when the bugger makes an appearance…2 days late now, get out already!!
Ha ha! Good luck Gemma!
My Mum used that too and recommends it.
Haha – I was liking your enthusiasm Rebecca!
I’ve previously used Origins microdermabrasion pads and I’d recommend those. You need to use them twice a week but they do make a difference. Like Rebecca though, I’ve found my GOLD standard skin care and now I’m never going back to faffing with 6 different pots when one will do.
Having umm-ed and ahh-ed about Liz Earle and Eve Lom for freaking AGES I recently decided to buy a whoppingly massive cleanser (the 200ml…cheaper per ml) and I can’t explain how much better it is to Liz Earle. I know its expensive but I started to have regular facials (I’m not doing well about being the big three-urgh either) and so decided to treat myself using our cheap in house beauty lady. I tried a few facials with the various people and then thought that rather than spending £30 a month I should be investing in some damn good daily use skincare at home. I was a bit sceptical about Eve Lom because I thought the benefits would be from the cloth, which you can get for £11 with Liz Earle. However, my skin feels amazing – I can’t explain how squeaky clean it makes me feel without looking squeaky.
For body, I’ve started using the Sanctury Hot Sugar treatment. Its lush. Am I the only one that finds body buffing a pain in the ARSE?
I’ve been using the No 7 Men’s exfoliator scrub for the last few years, which is excellent so I’d be really interested to try this one. I discovered it by accident when I stole it fromt other half, but it might be nice to have a more feminine fragrance!
Haha Sara I use that too, it’s brilliant isn’t it… But yes, it does smell woefully manly!
I use the no.7 exfoliator too and the total renewal body scrub which i started using in the run up to my wedding a couple of years ago- i really noticed a difference using both-im very pale and didnt want a fake tan for my wedding but i’m sure using the scrub made my skin look extra smooth in the photos!
